"Titanic" question....

Ok, I just watched the ending of Titanic again. Back when the movie first came out, everyone was saying that Rose died at the end of the movie. I never thought she did, but I wasn't sure.

I just watched it again and I don't see where people conclude that she died at the end! Ok, they show her laying in bed with her eyes closed and then they show her obviously dreaming or something, seeing Titanic in all its glory and seeing Jack and other passengers on board. People have told me that THAT is what means she died, that she's "meeting" all the ones who died on the ship that night.

Personally, I think she's just dreaming. How can a woman who was just creating pottery 2 days prior, just lay down one night and die??? She was FINE on the ship, during the movie??

So what's the verdict?? Do you think Rose died that night after tossing the necklace into the ocean? Or do you think she was just dreaming?????

You know, SeaSpray, it seems toooooooooooo cold to say that Rose died. I prefer to think that she passed to...........THE GREAT BEYOND :D :D :D :D :D .

Unfortunately, death DOES come like a thief in the night. Any of us can be fine today, gone tomorrow. I see it everyday.

CARPE DIEM!!!!!!!!

People can just die like that. My DH's grandfather died a few weeks ago. One minute he was making a joke with my DH's aunt, and not two minutes later he was dead. :(

I think Rose died. If I remember correctly, all of the people in her "dream" were dead also. She didn't dream about anyone who was currently living.

Eros:

I realize that!!!!! LOL I just think it's way too corny of a way to end such a good movie. "Rose throws the necklace overboard, then goes to sleep and dies"....??? Geez. LOL

I just think it's unbelieveable. I realize she's supposed to be something like 101 years old in the movie, but at the beginning of the movie, which takes place only a couple days before the end of the movie, she's quite spry, making pottery in her yard!

SilverLily:

I'm sorry about your DH's grandfather :(

And you're right, all the people in her "dream" were people who had died, but then again, they were the people that she liked who had died. So, that's why I thought she might've been dreaming; dreaming about seeing all those people that she had known long ago. Remember right before that last scene, she says that she had never mentioned Jack or what happened on the Titanic to ANYONE. So I thought all of her memories came back and she was dreaming about seeing them all again.

Oh well. I'm sure the "official" ending is that she died... I just don't think that was the best way to end the movie.

Rose died at the end. Earlier in the movie Jack told her she was going to live to be an old woman and die peacefully in her bed.

I thought that she died for all the reasons already mentioned.

Well, if I had my way, Jack would'nt have died! They would have been separated for a while, each thinking the other had died, then they would get together and live happily ever after! :)

Oh, and if I was Rose I would have sold that huge rock and passed the money on to my grandaughter as her inheritance. I wouldn't have thrown it in the sea!

Good point, Suite! You're right, he did say that to her, now that I think about it.

I love this movie but I find this one aspect of the movie to be a bit corny or something. What, was Jack a psychic or something??

I know that everyone except me thinks she died at the end. And I'm sure that's what the script intended us to think too... and I realize it's a fictional story created around an event that really happened, but her dying in her bed at the end, while still on board the ship, is just too... I don't know. Maybe it's me...I'm the eternal optimist.... I refuse to believe Rose died that night! LOL

I think she dies. She had made the complete loop back to the ship and her life was complete. In a movie, you can do anything.

"Every night I see you, I hear you, in my dreams
That is how I know you go on .."

*Maggie ducks out of the way from everyone throwing things at her for singing THAT song!* :p :p

I think she was dreaming. I gotta think that, otherwise I'll start crying all over again. :p

I think she died as well for most of the reasons mentioned above.

You're not alone SeaSpray. I thought she was dreaming too. It crossed my mind that she could have died but the words of the theme song implied that she saw Jack in her dreams every night. Most people that I know thought that she died too.

She didn't die. I saw her in a commercial...after she drops the necklace into the ocean, she thinks about what she just did, jumps in to retrieve it and then goes to the pawn shop and gets money!:D I saw her walking outside the store counting her money!:D

Did I sleep through this part I can't remember this stuff. I will have to watch the whole darn thing over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D

she DIED.

That's what made it so great and had me friggin hyperventilating and sobbing in the theater! She was meeting back up with her love! I wouldn't have liked the movie half as much if I thought it was only a dream.

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I admit... saw Celine singing that yesterday on Oprah and was singing along

I think she died and was seeing everyone she loved, for all the reasons already mentioned, plus the way that part was shot, with the lighting...trying to show it was heaven.

She not dead, she's just pining for the fjords!

Sorry, but she died and went to join all her friends in the ballroom under the sea.
