Titan Arum, the "Corpse Flower", Update ... It's Blooming!

I missed the blooming last year and I'm really looking forward to seeing (and smelling) it this year. It's growing 3-4 inches per day!

Oh yeah! That's the stinky flower that bloomed in Great Britain this year. It drew crowds.

Very cool Robinb! Even though it's not completely open yet, were you able to smell anything? Are you going back again?

I could get whiffs of it. It smells like dead rotting fish. Yum. One of the grad students said that the stench from last year's plant was "eye buring". I might go back today, but if it's that stinky I don't think my 2 year old DD would appreciate it .

My t-shirt says "Be Alert for Foul Balls". It's a Chicago Cubs t-shirt .

Here are 2 photos that I took of the plant:

The first is of the inside of the plant (the result of the above butt picture):

The second are the little baby Titan Arums. The plant from last year was hand polinated. These are it's little seedlings . The plant flowers at about 7-8 years of age.

BTW, the latin name for this plant is Amorphophallus titanum. I wonder why .
