Tired of Repeat Bad Deck Parties and Repeated Entertainment Shows

There absolutely should be more food variety. How about at least changing the menus on Eastern vs Western. Is it really that difficult to come up with new items? I don't think so.

In the DCL trip planning videos and TV commercials, DCL makes it very clear that they cater to all types of people, not just children. My husband and I look forward to our DCL cruises because we always find something fun to do when our kids aren't around (e.g. BINGO, relaxing/walking on deck 4, hanging out on the pool deck, "Art of Entertaining" series, "behind the scene tours, special guest talks, etc. ). I disagree with you when you say that overall it is geared to children.

We went on a 3 day Carnival cruise this summer, and just like Inkkognito had stated about RCCL, Carnival expected adult guests to be entertained by their casino. The weather was cool and overcast, so no one was hanging out on the pool deck. Their children's clubs were a joke, so our kids were bored throughout the entire cruise (oh, they did have an arcade ... whoopee!). They didn't have much for the adults either (unless you wanted to sit around in one of their smoke-filled bars or in the casino. Very different from DCL bars, which frequently have different types of entertainment going on throughout the day). While cruising with Carnival, my family developed a sincere appreciation for all of the activities DCL has to offer.

no matter how bored I am with it, the kids always love it and if that's not what you're there for, you shouldn't be on DCL.

We choose to cruise with DCL and/or go to WDW because <b>we all</b> enjoy our vacation, not just our children.

If you think there is nothing to do on DCL during the days at sea, be sure to stay away from RCCL. Compared to Disney, they were totally boring as they seemed to think that most passengers would amuse themselves in the casino.

Well, the megaship with the ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, roller blading - I think we need to give it a try. I saw one of the Travel Channel shows and have to admit, it sparked my interest.

Personally, I can't imagine feeling like there is nothing to do on either ship.

We saw you and Tony at the Castaway Club get together on the Magic during Memorial Day week when the captain made a note to point you out. I have to say, I don't know how you do it - but am glad you've found something you enjoy so much.

If you do one of the RCCL megaships, be sure to see the ice show. We did Voyager, and that was one of the highlights of the trip (the other was the parades they had down the "street"). It is extremely impressive to see what the skaters can do in such a tiny rink on a moving ship! It was one of the most memorable shows that I've ever seen. I loved it so much that we saw it twice.
We tried the rock wall, but for us that's not as exciting because our health club has one.
Radiance of the Seas seemed to have a lot less to do than Voyager, as it was an Alaskan cruise and the weather was not suitable for outdoor activities. The only enclosed pool was supposed to be for adults only, but nobody ever enforced that (and I sympathized with the kids because there was no way they could swim in the outdoor family pool...RCCL did some major bad planning, considering they knew they'd be sending that ship to Alaska).

Ann,
I'm amazed! I just noticed your post that you are allergic to poultry. My husband is allergic to chicken...he can eat eggs, but not the meat. You are one of only three other people we've found who share that same problem. He thought it was bad for him, but you're is even worse!

We just got back from our Alaskan Cruise on the Radiance, and I agree 100% with Barb--there is very little to do on ship, unless you gamble or play bingo. I found myself bored--usually between 4 and 8 (we had late seating). IMHO, A 4th showing of Disney Dreams beats the "Rocking In Paradise" show we saw on the Radiance. I wish they would get some new features, but I really do love Disney Dreams. We ususally skip the sail away, so I won't comment on that.

Hi Barb, I can eat egg whites but not the yolk. The yolk contains the poultry protein in it. Apparently I lack the enzyme to digest that protien. My body reacts as if it is being attacked and I go into anabolic (sp?) shock. Basically my lips, eyes etc . swell and my tounge and throat cutting off my airway. I have an epipen incase of accidental ingestion (chicken broth can be a real killer for me as they put into SO many things you would not expect).

There was one change during our cruise with the evening entertainment......50s night in Rockin Bar D is now 60s night. We had the band, Spirit, and they were fantastic!!!! 60s night was a blast and the crowd loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of our 8 DCL cruises we have always loved the Deck Parties. I think one of the reasons DCL does not do a lot of decorating is because of the weather. In a matter of moments the weather can change and the deck party has to be brought inside.

I personally like the deck party music they play. I think it gets most people revved up. All week long they play caribbean music on deck so I do not miss it at the sail away.

As far as the shows go, Disney Dream will always be a staple, but I agree they need to change/update the other shows and the cabaret acts. We have seen Rich Purpura 4 times and his show has been exactly the same all four times.....still makes me laugh, but would like to see new material.

Hey MJ! I was thinking of you this week while enjoying the evening theme nights. Believe it or not, it was more fun this year even with a new crew running things. I will be posting details on the trip report thread. I agree with your comment on Rich Purpura. I thought he was hysterical last year. Since his material was identical this year, I just sat there not laughing at all. He's a funny guy but he needs to come up with some new stuff!
