I've found it best to drink plenty of fluids on the plane and jump into local time as soon as you get there. If its dinner time then eat; it its bed time, go to bed. I'm sure there are a million other ways, but this works for me.

Don't drink alcohol. Mind you, if it was me flying to visit MY inlaws, I'd be tempted to drink a lot, but if you drink water and not alcohol, you'll do better jet lag wise.

You only have a 3 hour difference, so I am sure the time difference is easier to get used to instead of the 6 I have to endure. As someone else said....just change the sleep pattern. You are chaging time in the right direction, requiring you to stay awake longer, so you will be really sleepy when it is the new sleep time.

I used to fly between D.C. and San Francisco between our two main offices all of the time. Personally I found it much easier to go West than to go East. I would just go to bed a little earlier and wake up nice and early on the West Coast feeling refreshed.

It was the flying from the West Coast to the East Coast that was so hard on me. I would either get in late or else have trouble going to sleep and then usually have to get up and meet someone for a 6 am breakfast meeting. That was 3 am for my body.

 Hope you have a wonderful trip. Even though it is only a few hours it can be difficult for your body to adjust. It was for me. I'm sure Little Mr. Cutie Pie will have some adjusting to do too. Follow the tips everyone else has already given you here.

Make sure you rest and take things at your own pace too. Don't try to do too much. Make sure you have a very safe trip too.
