tips on how can we ride on Toy Story Mania?!

We were there last August and we are not rope drop people. We got there around 11:30 and walk to TMS and got fast passes, the return was around 2pm, but there was no running or waiting on line. We were able ride it few times that day - 2 times with FP and once during the EMH

Not sure ST is relieving the TSMM crush or not. We aren't at WDW now, but checked the lines app we used on our last trip yesterday evening - ST wait time was 20 minutes; TSMM was 80 minutes.

If TSMM is on your must do, I'd get to DHS in the morning and grab a FP.

This is our 1st trip in June & I've been on these boards everyday, bought a guide book & have an app for my phone. I always see the mad rush for TSM first thing in the morning & then all day it has a 50+ minute wait! :scared1:
We are planning to do rope drop but I've seen some crazy photos of all the people waiting to get in & then 80% are all going to TSM. I'm hoping with the new Star Wars ride re-opening that will alleviate some of the madness?
It's me,DH & three kids age 5-9. How in the world is a newbie to get on that ride?! Any tips or suggestions?

You need to get there at rope drop. Try to get as far to the front as possible while also being respectful and not pushy. I am a 54 year old grandma and I wanted my granddaughter to ride this ride, but we were there during a very busy time and I was anxious. I fast-walked to the fast pass booth while my dh and granddaughter got in line to ride (this isn't hard to do since the fast walking crowed practically just takes you along!). So they rode first and then later with our fast passes. We even used this strategy during Christmas week and were successful. Good luck!

TSM is all about timing and some luck. We were in the World March 2010 and we each rode TSM 13 times. We got lucky one evening and found a minimal wait time. We got there at rope drop another day and the fastpass machines malfunctioned and we got multiple fast passes. We even had a guest leaving give us a couple. All in all we had no problem enjoying it multiple times. It's very important that you get as many fastpasses in the morning and afternoon when it is slower and also walk onto as many rides as you can (In all parks). Then when it gets busy later you have a fistfull of fastpasses to use. Yes, you can use fastpasses any time after the return time (this is very important to success later in the day). We are school district employees so we always have to go at busy times. However, with some planning, we seldom wait in long lines.
