We're staying at Bay Lake Tower for the first time, and we usually are hostages of the Mouse in that we strictly use Disney transportation and have never left the property before. This year we are surprising our boys with a trip to Islands of Adventure, something they have been begging for. Only problem is, how do we get there without a rental car?

What options are there? I've looked around the boards here for quite a while and can't seem to find any tips on this.

Thanks for any help!:dancer:

1. rent a car
2. use a cab or car service
3. book a ride with the Mears shuttle

Your best bet is Mears which runs shuttles from the Disney hotels to Universal and back. You do need to make arrangements 24 hours prior though. You can check out the website for more information: www.mearstransportation.com

A cab or car service is going to be about $70 r/t but will cover about 4 or 5 people.

Should you want to take a taxi there are always a few of them just parked outside the main entrance of the Contemporary for anyone who needs one. However I would also look into renting a car because that could be make things a lot easier.

I went to the Mears site and I am having no luck figuring out how to get pricing for a shuttle from WDW to Universal. Anyone know what the cost is and how to book it?
Thanks!

I called Mears directly to ask them this exact question. They said it was $18 each person RT. They also said our hotel (AKV) would make the arrangements for us and to give them 24 hour notice. We have to tell them what time we wnat to be picked up and taken back. I figure 8 am - 8 pm. We are going in Oct. Going to check out the new HP land. Since we are two adults, this option seems the least expensive for us. One thing to keep in mind if you rent a car and drive is you have to pay for parking. Have a great trip. :)

I'd check out the rental car prices from the car care center or Dolphin hotel. You may get a cheaper rate renting the car for a day.

Thanks for the tips, much appreciated!

Undecided, but I'm leaning towards Mears and the Town car. A bit pricey, but we're saving money by eating breakfast in our room.:woohoo:
