tips for using dining plan

I was not sure how we would do with the dining plan, but we decided to give it a try. I usually like the flexibility of counter service meals, but my companion prefers a sit down meal each day.

We had the dining plan for 4 days. I worried about all the desserts and snacks, but we did not have a problem with overeating or gaining weight. The plan was so flexible that we were always able to have fruit for dessert or as an appetizer. At the food court at our resort, we were able to have salad as our dessert. We also asked for grapes instead of fries at counter service meals.

Some of the desserts at the counter service restaurants come in containers with lids, so you can save them for later if you like.

We used some of our snack credits to buy candy gifts to take home.

We ate breakfast in our rooms and made reservations for some lunches and dinners even though our plan was to save the table service meals for dinners. We had read that the restaurants might be booked up, so we planned in the contingency meals.

It was a good thing we did that because there was one night that we were tired and did not want to stay at the park for our table service reservation. We ended up eating two lunches and two dinners at table service restaurants. We decided to just enjoy the meals rather than worrying that we would have gotten a better value if we had used our credits for more expensive dinners. We were pretty good about canceling the reservations we decided not to use, but there were one or two times we forgot to cancel.

I had read that a lot of people have credits left over that they can't use, so we decided to use the credits for all of our meals and to pay over the counter if we ran out of credits at the end.

For our last day, we planned a table service breakfast just in case we had table service credits left over. It turned out that we had used all our table service credits, so we canceled the reservation and treated ourselves to our first counter service breakfast at our resort.

When a woman standing next to us overheard that we had run out of credits and would be paying out of pocket for breakfast, she offered to pay for our meals using her leftover credits. It was her last day too, and she had 13 credits that she could not use. It was very kind of her, and we enjoyed the breakfast very much.

So my best advice is not to hold onto credits and pay over the counter because you want to save them for more expensive meals. Just use them as needed and pay over the counter at the end if you have to. That way, you won't have credits that you can't use at the end of your trip.

That's what's called being sprinkled! I've always thought being at WDW brought out the best in people. It really is a magical place!:goodvibes

Good advice on using the credits, lest you lose them or give them away!
