Will one day be enough for newbies to Universal?
Party includes momma (me) and 13 yo daughter.
I am not even sure where to begin at the theme park.lol

Depends on which park you are going to..If you want to do both parks ( Islands of Adventures and Universal Studios) we recommend 2 days ,1 for each .The hilights of both parks can be done in one day depending on the time of year and opening /closing.If you are aiming for the Harry potter stuff primarily, right now that is only at IOA ( an expansion is going on in the Studios but has not been announced yet nor is there a completion date). If you tell us more of what you are looking for we can advise you better

If you want to experience everything, one day is not enough. There is no since rushing around...you're on vacation...relax and take some time to really enjoy yourselves. And remember...there are no discounts for single day tickets so it will be expensive.

I would recommend reading trip reports, checking out the Universal website to see the layouts of the parks and where everything is located and looking at YouTube ride videos so you know what to expect.

As others have said, I am sure it depends on the time of year, but we just got back from a President's Week vacation. You will need at least one day for each park. I didn't know where to start for these parks either. We didn't even know for sure that we were going until days before. So, I bought the Unofficial Guide to Disney World and read their sections on the two parks. I also followed their Touring Plans exactly and they worked perfectly. The plan was so good, that we had time to do a several rides more than once. We got to the parks before they opened and we seemed to be ahead of the crowds all day.
