Tips for trying to get pre-rope drop at Crystal Palace in August?

How many people? The best way to find out is to check for reservations online. I ran quick searches and couldn't find any reservations for breakfast for two or four people either of those days.

Check at different times throughout the day. Hope you snag one!

It's possible keep checking at odd times during the day. I usually check Disney' site every time I get online when I'm looking for a reservation and have been so far able to get everything. keep checking until the evening before

At this point you really do want to check several times per day. Your dates are VERY close and these are HIGHLY covetted ADRs so when they hit the system they'll be snatched up quickly by others trying to get the same thing.

Crystal Palace seems to seat you by the order you arrive to check in at the restaurant, at least initially. So if you could only get an 8:40am reservation, you can still show up as soon as they open and likely get in well before your reservation. It isn't guaranteed, but might turn a time that doesn't appear to work into a success. (As the later times are more likely to appear so close to your date than the prime early ones)

I don't know about that...I've arrived 25 mins prior to my seating time and I was told to return to the podium 15 mins prior...they wouldn't check me in that early. But you can always try.
