we have just booked a trip to wdw from the UK and we have recently become parents for the first time. My dd will be 5 months and we have decided that her first holiday should be to disneyworld!!

Now what are your tips for me???? :thumbsup2

Bearing in mind i have never taken a baby on holiday before :scared1:

Oh Lordie! Ok ok. Let's see.

First buy that precious baby a seat on the plane and put her in an FAA approved carseat.

Bring a sheet that fits Pack-n-play playpens/cribs. Thats what WDW uses and you'll feel better with baby sleeping on your own sheets.

Bring a baby carrier that you wear. There are plenty of places that baby can go that the stroller can't, like some rides and shows and in lines and such. We took our son twice with the Baby Bjorn and give it a hearty thumbs up.

Breast feeding? I'd invest in one of those covers that's made to do just that, so you can literally feed anywhere comfortably.

Bottle feeding? Get baby used to formula at room temperature or colder. That way you can feed anytime without worrying about heating it up. To me this just makes good sense in real life too.

Bring your own stroller, no matter how big it is. You and baby should be comfortable. This is not the time to discover you hate your new stroller.

Good luck!

I agree with all of the above except there is no way I would buy her a plane seat at 5 months..just take turns at holding her and she will be fine. We just rent a car seat at the car hire place...believe me when I say you will have enough to haul on your travels without adding carrying a car seat. Try to bring a lighweight stroller. The airline will let you bring it right up to the gate then put it in the small hold for you, that way it will be waiting for you when you get off the plane in Florida. Stick to the bottled water...its fine out of the tap for us to drink but here in america they tend to have a lot more chloramines in the water than the uk does. (Im from Scotland now living in Texas). At 5 months the baby will be so easy to vacation with...they will enjoy looking at all the lights and colors. bring plenty of his/her formula but if you do run out dont worry...Walmart or walgreens sell a formula very similar to UK called "Carnation". They isnt really any difference. If you need to ask anything else please feel free to PM me.

Hello

We took our first child at 4 months from Australia to Disneyworld. It was wonderful!!

First we did not buy our daughter a seperate seat we sat in bulkhead which has the fold down bassinet. Our daughter slept most of the way over and on the way back. I am not up on the time difference for the UK but what we did was keep our daughter on her same schedule on the plane on the way over. So we held her in our laps until 7pm her normal bed time then put her to bed in the bassinet. We then used one of the plane blankets to put over the bassinet otherwise all the people walking past would have woken her up.

By the time we landed in LA it was 2am our time but that is when we switched her to a USA schedule. We ended up checking into our hotel in Orlando at 11pm and she slept until 8am.

Also bring a sheet and extra blanket for the plane.

We bottle fed and I agree with the other poster about getting your baby used to not having warm bottles. We still heated ours when we could but there were times where it was difficult.

We brought a baby bjorn for our baby and I used it alot on the rides. I felt more comfortable having the baby strapped to me versus just holding her on my lap. We also had our own stroller which comes in handy for meals etc.

We never had a problem with getting seated at restaurants with the stroller except at Coral Reef. Only some of their tables will accomodate a stroller.

We kept to our daughters schedule as much as possible going back to the hotel in the afternoon for a nap. Her morning nap was in the park in the stroller usually. We only stayed in the parks late once or twice otherwise we tried to keep to her bedtime schedule as well.

It was really pretty easy to travel with a baby that small they are pretty happy just being with you.

Have fun
