We are planning on going to St Loius for a couple of days the first week of August so does anyone have any tips on what to see hotel.
We have been to the arch several times and Six Flags.
Do they have any good boat rides/trips??

I would recommend the zoo (it's free), the brewery tour (it's free AND you get 2 free beers per adult), and Grant's Farm (it's free AND you get 2 free beers per adult).

The zoo is fantastic and really can't be seen all in one day. The brewery - it is really interesting to see how the beer process works and you get to see some of the horses. Grant's Farm is where Auggie Busch's estate and fmr. Pres. Grant's home is. It's like a mini-zoo and the breeding stables for the clydsdales is there.

I haven't been there and I am going to do this before summer is over but I have heard great things about the City Museum.

I live in St. Louis for 3 years. It's a great city!

The Art Museum, the Zoo, the Jewel Box conservatory, the MUNY theatre, History Museum, and Science Center are all in Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the US -- 500 acres larger than Central Park in NYC.

Are you a baseball fan? Go to a STL Cards game at Busch Stadium.

And don't miss getting a Ted Drewes "concrete" -- the BEST frozen custard in the world!!

We always make a point of having dinner in one of the fabulous Italian restaurants in "The Hill" neighborhood.

I just came back from St. Louis last week. We only spent 5 days there, but this is what we were able to fit in.
We stayed at the Marriott Pavillion Downtown. It is next door to Bucsh Stadium where the Cardinals play and within walking distance of many things. Many places we visited did not charge a fee to visit.
We went to the Old Courthouse (I liked that). We walked to the Jefferson Memorial the arch) There is a museum and gift shop underneath (below ground). BIG HINT: DO NOT take a picture at the security check point as the WILL take your film...even if it has a weeks worth of pictures on it.
Beyond the Arch we took a boat/ferry ride up part of the Mississippi River, it lasts about 1 1/2 hour. I thought they could have "cleaned up the view, but it was fun and I can now say I have been on the Mississippi.
If you like to gamble there are 2 riverboat casinos. I hate to gamble, but I had to suck it up one night and go for 1 hour. I suggest that you do not go to the casino called The Presidential, it is smokey and in my opinion scuzzie. I have heard that the casino across the river is nicer, I think it is called The River Queen.
We took the Metro to Union Station (Hard Rock Cafe is there) and the History Museum is a few stops beyond that (Forest Park section as mentioned above by another poster). It costs $1.25 to ride 1 way and the tickets are timed. we didn't want to be rushed so we bought 1 ticket each time we hopped on the metro. But check the chart because you can ride free in certain areas at certain times I think between 11:00 and 1:30. I foound the Metro to be very clean and easy to navigate.
We visited 2 Cathedrals.
You must go to the Anheiser/Busch Brewery any taxi will take you there. The beer just seems to taste better there.
There are many clubs in a little area that play Jazz. We didn't make it there, but friends went and had a terrific time.
We went to the Soldiers Memorial, I liked that too.
The Dodgers were in town while we were there so we did that too . The Cardinals have a nice stadium.
If you are looking for a nice place to have dinner You MUST go to
The St. Louis Steak House. It is by far the best steak we have had in our lives. 16 adults went and everyone loved their meal! It is pricey, but well worth it. I got a petit fillet and it cost $27.00 and you have to pay for the potatoes about $5.00 and the veggie again about $5.00 also had to pay for the Tomatoe Salad before dinner about $6.00 so my dinner alone cost approx. $43.00 not including the the dessert (which I have no idea what that cost) and the 2 glasses of wine.

That's all I can remember at the moment and I know I typed A LOT! I hope it is a bit helpful.

You have received some great ideas there! I have lived in this area all my life and never taken a Brewery tour.

Let me be one of the first to welcome you to St. Louis. I will say it hasn't been the typical hot, humid summer here. I hope the weather stays nice while you visit.

I will warn you they are doing alot of ramp work around Poplar Street Bridge and that has been causing delays. Right now Westbound 70 is closed for another week at least.

Thanks for all the great ideas!!!

I have to second Ted Drewes!!! I'll be there next month to see my parents and the will ve one of the first and last stops of the trip. It is sooo good!!!

My favorite things to do are the Zoo, the arch, the art museum and the Science Center. I can't wait to see the new Elephant area at the zoo. I hear that it is great.

If you like historical areas or shopping, historic Downtown St. Charles is great (just a few miles west on I-70). The original state capital was located there and most of the buildings are historic with shops located there now.

There are riverboat cruises both in St. Louis (just in front of the Arch) and in St. Charles.

Have a great time!
