Does anyone have any tips on taking pictures of food? I have a new camera since my last trip, and want to make sure I take the best pictures possible.

1) Try to get setup so you don't need a flash (a beanbag works well). When a flash is used, it does not look as appetising.
2) Stage the shot. Move distracting ojects away from the scene.
3) Get close. Keep anything that is not related directly to the subject out of the photo.
4) Get closer. You don't necessarily need the whole plate in the photo.
5) Color is better. Try to get as much bright and different color into the photo as possible.
6) Fancy meals are better. They are art work in themselves. Take advantage of them. (Burgers usually don't fit in this category)
7) Take the photo(s) before you eat. ;)

Not sure what camera you are using, but if it is a fairly new PnS you might check what different settings it has. The Olympus I got in February has a 'cuisine' setting. They look like this.

The settings it uses are ISO 100, F 8.0 and 1/30

Now my old PnS did really well on Auto

I have never figured out how to get good food shots with my DSLR, they are blown out with the flash and not bright enough or clear without it. Those are hand held of course.

Those crab cakes from the Flying Fish are some of the best ones I have ever had. Mmmmmm. :thumbsup2

TIP #1: (As noted above ;) ) Take the pictures before you eat a bunch of it!

Sorry- but some of the Food Porn shots really skeeve me out. :scared:
