Hi everyone!

I had a bit of a shock when I went to the Doctors yesterday for them to tell me I am pregnant  Not a complete surprise as we had been trying but I have PCOS and wasn’t expecting anything to happen for awhile but low and behold! Thats what happens when you go on holiday without the kids!

We are going to Disney August 3rd for a week :cool1: my concern is with the PCOS I have an increased risk of miscarriage and I really don’t want that to happen again. Have any of you or your partners flown whilst pregnant especially as it is such a long flight (9hours). Was it manageable? Would you do it again? Am I mad for even considering this!?

My main concern is the heat in August, I am quite sensible and will make sure I drink plenty but I hope I will be able to manage the walking. I will only be 4 months pregnant but they are querying twins so I could be very big!

I really don’t want to let everyone down and cancel.

Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

I would definitely talk to your doctor/midwife/care provider about flying at that stage in your pregnancy. That is the person who knows your medical history and knows the risks you can reasonably take at that time.

If you have to cancel, just think how much fun your next trip will be with a new addition! (I know how you feel, we had to cancel our December trip -- we didn't want to go to WDW with a baby only a few weeks old!)

By 4 mos, the m/c risk will be down. I would make sure you 1) know if you're having more than 1 by then and 2) just talk to your DR about it. They may say go, have a good time, but don't walk, rent a wheelchair instead. 9 hrs is a long flight, but just like if you were driving, you want to stay well hydrated, get up and walk around every hour at least, and use the restroom often. I was 22wks last year when we went on vacation and it involved an almost 24hr car ride (there and then back) w/ a 3yo and a 1.5yo. Talk about crazy! They DR said it was fine. You might call your insurance though and find out what hospitals are approved in Orlando for you just in case though. Congrats! I have a friend who is desperately TTC right now w/ PCOS and it's so hard on them.

Of course I will definitely speak to my Midwife when I see her next; I was so excited the first time I seen the doctor I didn’t even think to ask. I know I am very lucky to conceive naturally and a 2nd time which is fantastic after having PCOS, not only that I have only one ovary but what is meant to be is meant to be. My Husband said it is his 'super sperm' :rotfl2:

I wanted to get some feedback before I speak to my Midwife but I guess I will have to be prepared for the worst. If I was honest I know deep down I should not go, I had two threatened miscarriages with my last son and I hemeraged, I am just a bit scared that’s all.

Thanks for all your help and advice, it is appreciated. My Husband is working away so I don’t have him to moan to!

First off congratulations:yay: ! My friend has PCOS, and the same thing happend to her. It took four years (and two miscarriages) for her to have her first, but with her second it happened very quickly.
Definately talk to your midwife. Most miscarriages happen in the first trimester, but PCOS does complicate things. I also think you should go with your gut. If you really feel like it's a bad idea to go then hold off. I know that's easier said than done, but mother's have such strong intuition. Go with it.

First of all, CONGRATS!

Secondly, I just wanted to comment on the PCOS/pregnancy/increased miscarriage... I, too, have PCOS and am pregnant with twins. I am on metformin (also known as Glucophage) and am told that this helps decrease the risk of miscarriage for women with PCOS. I'm out of the first trimester so I can breathe easier now, but I wanted to mention it for you. Maybe you can talk to your midwife about it...

Congrats again!

I just wanted to congratulate you!!!!! How exciting!

I don't have PCOS, but after Corey, I had bleeding (can't think of the word they used for it right now though) with all my pregnancies. By the time we went to Disney when I was pregnant with Arminda, I was 7 months, so the bleeding had stopped. But, Lydia was a big suprise pregnancy, I found out, about two weeks before we left that I was pregnant. I started bleeding just a few days before we left to drive down. I was put on progesterone (I was also on that with Arminda) and the midwife told me to go enjoy myself, and basically, whatever happened would have happened no matter what I did.

I am very glad that we went, it helped take my mind off of things.

But, like I said, you have a different condition, so do what feels right for you, and listen to your midwife. And, again congratulations!!!!

I just wanted to mention that this pgcy could be totally different! I had ptl w/ Evan and was in the hospital for a few days stopping it etc and then had an abruption during labor etc and as worried as I was w/ the next baby, absolutely nothing happened. Here's hoping that it's just like that. :goodvibes

I think you will be fine! I had a friend travel out of the county while pregnant in her first trimester and she did fine, I believe she has PCOS too. I do agree you should talk to your dr. or midwife.

I agree with pp who said what happens will happen no matter what. When I was 16 weeks pregnant with my second we were at WDW and I started bleeding. I called the Dr. and they said just to watch it and that it wasn't anything I did that it would have happened at home too. Luckily it wasn't anything and I now have a happy fiesty 2 year old. I then went at 32 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and had no problems.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for yoU! oh and CONGRATULATIONS:banana:
