We are going to Disney in the fall and I couldn't be more excited. I have been hearing about the pin collecting/trading and I thought this might be yet another way to enjoy myself (like I need any more ways). But it seems a bit pricey. Does anyone have some good tips about pin collecting?

I would love to hear any and all advice about how the trading works (with CMs or other guests), how many I should have to start, finding some inexpensive pins, and where I should get them and a lanyard to boot.

Yes, I am truly inexperienced in this area so I would love any tips that you might think of. Thanks!

Seek out Ed and his bunch they are nuts and always have a good time pin trading. Watch out for Ed though he's nuts:p

Pin trade safely, watch out for sharks, and above all do at least one of Scoops pin trading seminars, there you will learn the how to and why of pin trading.

Thursday night go to the All-Star for pin trading night, and go to the Contemporary on Friday pin trading night there you will find a very friendly pin trading bunch, ask for Ed, Donna June, Bob, Jimmy, Heather... oh the list goes on and on. Look for a bunch of people laughing and having a good time thats us.

Downtown Disney on any night but be careful the waters are a bit rough there at times.

And above all else be freaky and have fun I do:teeth:

Stacy...welcome to the wonderful world of pin trading! I found that trading/collecting can be expensive, but it doesnt have to be! In fact to get you started if you pm me with your address I will send you an extra lanyard I have laying around here, also do you have kids and what are their ages? Good luck

My DS9 is wanting to pin trade next year on our cruise. I have bought a couple of Mickey pins on ebay, but I don't want to spend too much money. Was so disappointed they don't sell them at local Disney stores any more. If he has a special one, can he still wear it? Does he have to trade if someone wants it? Would like to give him some tips.:D

He doesn’t have to trade any pin on his lanyard if he doesn’t want to, that’s the beauty of pin trading you have the right to say no thank you.

Cast members have to trade as long as it a Disney pin, not a rubber pin, and as long as they do not have it on their lanyards, but a 9 year old can do whatever he wants they wont say no. But please please let him know to be polite to cast members always say may I look at your pins please, then even if they have nothing say thank you for letting me see your pins.

And trade for whatever you like, don’t go crazy and try to collect everything you’ll go nuts.

Thanks for the advice Raulandpinboy. I know he'll have a great time trading.:bounce:

And most of all have fun. Try and go to a local meet or if you can seek out Ed and Donna at one of the WDW meet nights. They are fantastic.

Wow. That's an impressive set of pins. How long did it take you to accumalate that many?

Thank you... About 4 years now. It is not lat large of a collection anymore as I have focused on just a few styles in the past year or so and have brought my pins under some kinda control... Sorta :)
