I know with the new dining plan that the gratuity is included. So based on that do you think that the service would be any less, because the server knows that they are getting a fixed amount for the tip? Also does anyone give an additional tip, if the server goes above and beyond? I would love to hear your opinions.

Thanks,
Marc

I didn't notice a difference in service when on the dining plan. Many leave an additional amount so the tip will coincide with the amount they usually leave--for example an 18% gratuity is placed on the reciept, I usually leave 20% minimum so I add to that so the server still gets what I am accustomed to tipping. I also leave a few extra dollars if we are splitting a meal, if there is something extra that usually isn't included that we want, etc. I know a server works jsut as hard for a lower tip if we split a meal so I figure the tip based on what two meals would have cost.

We always left an additional amount for the tip -- bringing it up to at LEAST 20% and more for great service. I agree that there appeared to be no overall difference in service between being on DDP and not -- there are just some CM wait staff who are better at their job than others.

I tend to tip an additional 10%-15% if the service is good, which it almost always is.
I don't mind if it seems like alot.

When we were on the Dining Plan in October we found the service to be consistently GREAT! We certainly did not find it to be less attentive etc. than thoses folks who were paying OOP.
We always left an additional tip to bring it up to what we normally would tip. In October the included tip was only 15%, so we added additional to bring it to 20% or more on occassion

On the other side of the coin, surely the fact that they're already getting $x in a guaranteed tip from the dining plan means that they're gonna tell you which food is really GOOD rather than which meals push the bill up and as such get them a higher tip as a % of the overall bill?

Nearly every restaurant has a signature dish or two. When in doubt the servers will talk about them as well as answering any questions about your food preferences.
