Tipping For Take Out

I do not tip for take-out. If I am driving to get it and have to go in and pick it up, I do not see the need. Delivery to my home, yes, I tip. When did this become a thing? I used to work at Friendly's when I was a teenager and no one ever tipped for takeout. Even when we made them 10 sundaes while they watched. Again, not sure when this became a thing.

I always feel awkward if I go to Sonic to get a drink, since they have the people who roller skate/walk your food out. They don't give an option for you to get it yourself. I am never sure if I should tip there.

Do people tip a Starbucks?

I rarely order take out. When I do, sometimes I tip, sometimes I don't. If i do tip, it is a small amount.

Sonic servers do not receive full minimum wage they receive a server's wage. The carhops load the trays, deliver your food and will retrieve anything extra you need.

I don't but my husband does. He seems to pick up more than I do, and is on more familiar terms with the restaurant staff, so I think it's where it comes from. If I were on friendlier terms with them, I'd probably tip, too.

I think it depends on the type of place. Fast food that's already coming out packaged, or I have to go get it gets no tip. If it's specially packaged up for me, then I add a few bucks. If I go to a place more frequently, I'll tip more.

Now, food trucks I typically tip more traditionally. There's usually only 2 or 3 people doing ALL of the work.
