When, and how much is appropriate for tipping at the hotels? For example, the bellboys who take your bags to the rooms, maid service, etc.? One of the main reasons I am asking this is because I know I am paying about $12 a day to keep my car in their lot. I know you can say that the service people are not getting this, but I'm not use to paying extra to park at a hotel, either.

Bellboy - $2/bag but we rarely use them. That's the reason I have kids! I ask them if they want the $2/bag and they usually do. Kids are smart though. They now pack about 6 small bags each.
Maids - Min. $5 a day and $3 for the turndown service. If there is 4 of us I tip $2/person/day or $8 for the maid servive. Jonathon Tisch the Loews CEO tried to switch days with the maids once and found it the to be the hardest job in the industry. Average wage for the maids was around $8/hr.

Maid service is not a tipped position. We tip $1/person for good maid service; sometimes more if they go out of their way for us. I always pick up the room before we leave. In Mexico we had 3 teen boys sharing a room. We tipped the maid much more because their room was always a mess!

Bell boys I tip $1-2 per bag. We usually don't use them as it's easier to get our bags ourselves.
