I normally tip at the end of the week, but friends were saying you should tip every day since you may not have the same cleaning staff. Also, how much for a family of 4 is appropiate? I tend to overtip. Thanks for any help!:cool1:

I tip daily and do $5 for a family of 4. I also do $3/day for turndown service.

I tip every day since you do have different people cleaning your room and it's not fair for one to get tipped at the end of the week if someone else did a lot of the work.

At some point in time I read it was $1 per person in your room, so as a family of 4 I tipped $5 a day. $4 just seemed weird to me :confused3 I have no idea if that is enough, but it's what I've done in the past. Maybe someone else has a better scale?

We tip $1 - $2 per person staying the room per day. The day we arrive, we take a napkin and write "Thank you Mousekeeping" on it.

Each day we tuck the money in the fold of the napkin and leave it on the pillow - the Mousekeeper takes the tip and leaves the napkin.

Thanks so much for all your advice.....love the napkin idea! I read some people had made up envelopes ahead of time with the money inside....leaving in 3 days...can't wait!

We (almost) always tip the housekeepers each day - $1 - $2 per person per day.
But I am confused on turndown tipping. When we're in the room I give the staff person $1 or $2 - but I just forget to leave anything if we're not there - or maybe we're gone all day and there's not a chance to leave something.

What do others do for the turn-down service?:confused3

I have always tipped hotel maids in every hotel I visit between $1 and $3 per person per night (i.e., $3 if it's just me, $4 for my wife and I, and $5 for my family of 3).

I always leave cash in the middle of the unmade bed each day, no notes or cards required.

Just so you know, we have left $$ for mousekeeping in the past and they didn't always take it. So now I always leave a note that says something like, "For Housekeeping. Thank you !"

On an older thread about tipping, one DISer commented that they didn't always take the envelope she (DISer) had marked "Mousekeeping", and another DISer commented that many of the mousekeepers do not speak English well and may not recognize the word "mousekeeper" on an envelope.

So I would suggest leaving the money out in plain site, in an area that mousekeeping will be handling (like a bed pillow), with a post-it note saying thanks. That way, you'll cover all your bases! :)

Oh, and DH and I usually leave $3 per day for the two of us, which may not be enough (we've super neat though, so we don't leave much for mousekeeping to do).

Housekeeping is a non -tipped position at Disney - the cost of housekeeping is included in your room rate - the housekeepers are not supposed to accept tips so by offering them you are putting them in a difficult position.

:sad2: :sad2: That's just cheap, sorry. :sad2: :sad2:

How is it cheap?

The housekeepers know they are not supposed to accept tips- so by leaving one you are putting them in the difficult position of whether to take it or not knowing they are not supposed to.

The room rates include servicing the room - I am paying for that so how does that make me cheap?

The poster just pointed out a fact. No need to get rude.
OP, in hotels in general (I´ve never stayed in a Disney hotel before) we usually tip $1 per person each day and then we leave a bit more on our last day since we usually leave quite a mess (in terms of endless shopping bags, shoe boxes, etc.)

we tip $5 every day, as we too believe it may not be the same mousekeeper each day:thumbsup2

Hey the mousekeeping envolopes , does anyone know where to find them?
I know there used to be a link :confused3

Oh boy...Here we go againpopcorn::

BTW...we tip $5 a day. I was a mousekeeper back in the mid 90's so I tip.;)

:wizard: There are 2 of us and I leave $3 a day...I printed up my "Thank you Mousekeeping" envelopes (this year with Tinkerbell on the front) and stuffed them yesterday....we leave in 2 days and I can't wait!!!!

No I can't wait either - we leave in 7 days.

But there are 10 of us - most of whom we are paying for so by these calculations I would be expected to leave $10-20 a day - $120-240 over our stay. This added to our rooms, park tickets, air fares from the UK, compulsary tips in restaurants etc. I'm sorry but we can't afford it - and I will not be made to feel guilty for not leaving anything - we make our own beds and don't leave a mess.

OP - please leave whatever you want or can afford but don't feel you have to leave anything - you have already paid for room servicing in the room rate.

Ok I'm totally confused now! Is mousekeeping a non tipping position or not? Are they in trouble taking a tip or not? I really don't mind leaving a tip each day but don't want to get someone in trouble for accepting one. I actually came to this thread looking for a link to mousekeeping envelopes to make and take with me in Sept. Know where I can find this link? I could just make up something cute myself but would love to see some other ideas. Thanks!:flower3:

Mousekeeping is a tipping position.

And I disagree with the person who said don't feel obligated to tip. (I know tipping is very different in the UK, but we're dealing with America here.) If you get good service, you should tip. These people work very hard for less than minimum wage, and depend on their tips. The only time I withhold tips is when I don't get good service.

As far as I am concerned, tips should be worked into your budget. If you can't afford to tip, don't go. You're harming the people who can least afford it otherwise.

Disney's "official" position (based on the job description) is that it is a non-tipped position. That being said, the mousekeepers do not make a lot of money in terms of a salary, and I am sure greatly appreciate any tips they are given. To my knowledge, they do not get in any sort of trouble for accpeting the tips.

It's good if you keep your room neat and clean, as this makes a mousekeeper's job easier, but remember they do more than simply make the beds. They vaccum, replenish towels, soaps, shampoos, etc., empty trash cans, and clean the bathroom. Unless you are doing all of these things yourself in the morning before you leave for the parks, it never hurts (IMHO) to leave a few dollars in thanks.
