Tipping at DVC Resorts

Dec.2005 was my 1st trip to the "world" as a DVC Member. I was a little thrown off about how to tip at a DVC resort since you don't get the day to day housekeeping as you do at the regular Disney resorts.

I was just curious what the more experienced DVC members tip and do you tip at the beginning of the trip or at the end. I've heard some people like to tip at the beginning of the trip because they feel they get extra special treatment during their stay.

What do you guys think?

I usually leave something on T&T day and a bit more on full cleaning days. The amount is dependent on room size, # of people and how messy we are.

I agree with the PP. I only tip on the days when I am getting a service and then it's based on room size, # of occupants, and our mess factor. We leave the biggest tip on checkout usually, because they have to turn the room over completey.

Tipping is a tough question. I often wonder why we tip for extra housekeeping services - when we have to pay for them anyway. Seems like being doube charged to me.

Disney, like many hotels, consider housekeeping a non tipped position. Nationally I've seen it stated a number of times that hotels overall are split about 50/50 on those that do consider this a tipped position and those that do not.

Call me cheap, but I feel the same way....I don't usually tip at all unless housekeeping does something "special" for me during my stay. My last stay at SSR during Christmas 12/17 to 12/23 housekeeping came in one time and emptied SOME of the garbage, not ALL of it and gave us clean towels that were left on the dining table for me to put away. In my honest opinion that hardly calls for a tip.

If you didn't leave a tip, perhaps that's why they didn't do much. The thing is you don't know what kind of service they did until after they leave.

I usually leave $5 on T & T day and $10 at the end for a 1 bedroom. They usually leave extra towels on T & T day when I tip. I can't say that I remember a time when I left a tip that we didn't get good service. I figure the tip left at the end reflects the condition of the room on arrival.

I agree with Debbie. We left $10 after staying 3 nites in a 1BR at SSR. We found the place immaculate at check-in, and hope a small token for the mousekeeper ensures our "home" will be well kept!
They may say it's a non-tipped position, but I'm sure most of us wouldn't want it.
If I can afford to go to WDW, I can afford to leave a small tip for great service!

one should not have to tip to get their trash emptied! that is part of T&T service, not an option dependent on tip. i would have called housekeeping and let them know the housekeeper was not doing their job.
