I stopped at Starbucks today on my way home to get a little treat since I didn't get much sleep last night and had $ left on a gift card.. and saw a drive-thru, so I opted to not go inside and stay in my car.

At the window, there was a tip jar.. with quite a few $1 bills inside of it! I don't understand why they need a tip in the drive-thru.. there's not really any upkeep going on there. I used to work at McDonald's, and the drive-thru was the easiest of the jobs.

Why is there a tip jar at Starbucks' drive-thru window? Do you tip at these jars? Why or why not?

I don't- unless they go above and beyond- I consider tips either for employees who don't make at least minimum wage or for exceptional service.

Most likely no. if I'm getting a large order then yes. If I'm just getting one cup of coffee forget it. Seems like every place you go now theres a tip jar. Over the summer we were on vacation and in one of the little gift shops there was a tip jar on the counter. Said something like "going to college need tips". I couldn't beleive it. ANd no I did not tip there either.

If you put a tip jar out, most people will drop money into it. We are not most people. I tip those who perform a service for me and those paid less and a tip is expected.

No because the starbucks I go to takes forever to get my order. I have a simple order, no one inside and no one in drive thru but me.
I did happen to get a coupon for a free any drink any size..

All Starbucks windows have a tip jar. they have for years. not something to worry about, eh?

I actually do tip at my local Starbucks (even on the DT) because the people that work there are awesome! I go there regularly and they know me, know what I get (one guy even knows that what I order if I go in the morning is different than what I get in the afternoon), they have never messed up my drink, and do all that while being friendly. I know they are paid to be friendly, but I have a great deal of respect for people who can pull that off convincingly all day when dealing with a lot of picky/difficult customers.

I realize not all Starbucks are the same. But the one near me is great. So I leave a tip more often than not. I just wish tips weren't pooled. But that is the way it works there.

They are everywhere now. My local pizza place has one on the counter now. I tip when they bring pizza to me, not when I come get it. I do tip at the coffee place often, but it is just the coins.

They really are getting out of hand though, they are everywhere.

I have "my" Starbucks that I go to several times a week. I use a Starbucks card though, and rarely carry cash. The same people usually work on Saturdays and Sundays, and that's when I go the most. So I will get some cash every once in a while just to tip my usual weekend crew, but not every week.

Our drive-throgh Starbucks has a tip ja that always has cash in it. I think they're sweet girls whoare always cheerful and always get our order right (my drug, er, drink of choice is a double tall mocha, steamed to 130, no whip...not an easy one lol) so I figure "why not?" and toss a dollar or two in.

if i have some change, i will drop it in.

our Dunkin Donuts has a tip jar in their drive-through as well. the problem is that it is out of reach. so, i don't usually leave anything in their tip jar. i might if i could reach it. :confused3

Most of the Dunkin' Donuts I frequent aren't allowed to accept tips (one will take the money and donate it to charity); but one that I liked - where they knew me and knew my order to the point where I could just pull up to the speaker and just say, "Hi, it's Kaytieeldr" and then drive to the pickup window - I always tipped.

When I go inside Sbux there's a tip jar, always has been. The same barista serving me at the counter is making the orders for the window too, not the guy ringing up the order and handing the cup through the window. I tip at either spot, because I assume the barista is getting a chunk of that.
