I see people mention tip envelopes alot. Can someone fill me in, we leave next week. How do we tip and what's the average rate?

From what I've read on DIS, most tip $1-2 per person in your party, I just printed some free tip envelopes from mousesavers, I'm putting $5 in each before we leave to save time later on, leave one each day we are there. There are 4 in my party.
HTHs :)

We also did $5/day for a room of 4. My DD decorated envelopes with Disney stickers and wrote "Mousekeeping" on them.

In my neck of the woods it's usual to leave the tip at the end of the stay, and I always left $25. This year, per the tip I read here, I'm pre-filling envelopes with a $5 bill for each day instead of leaving the tip at the end. Seems a better method than the one I was using.

During our stay last month at POLY the mousekeepers wouldn't take the tip. Is it possible that my amount offended them? It was less than $5 but I had planned on leaving $2 or $3 each day. Or is them not taking tips something new? It certainly wasn't my intent to offend but now I'm wondering if I did.

Some mousekeepers do not take them. Please do not be offended.

Where did you leave it? I always leave it on a pillow on the bed and it is always taken. You can also leave it with the little sign with their name on it. I think if you leave it say just on the night table they won't take it.

Tip envelopes are not necessary, but many Diser's enjoy making them. I really can't be bothered. I just leave the daily $2-3 (there are 2 of us) under the card with the housekeepers name that is usually on the shelf over the sink. The housekeepers have never seemed to be offended by the lack of a sticker covered envelope- they've always taken the money.

I have always left mine on the nightstand and they take it. But I really like the envelope idea for my next trip

Thank you:santa:

I think the envelopes are cute. Getting them printed and packed is just a fun part of Disney anticipation for us.

I think $1-2 a person is fair. I'd leave a tip everyday. There's a good chance you'll have different housekeepers throughout your stay and who knows if a big tip left at the end will get split between everyone it's supposed to.

My wife takes normal run of the mill envelopes and decorates them for the different days. She puts the date on them so that we know when to put them out. For mousekeeping we usually leave an amount for the resort we are staying at. Deluxe and Deluxe Villa's get $8 a day, Moderates get $5 a day and Value's get $3-$4 a day. Not sure why she insists tipping different amounts since a $5 average per day would be sufficient in my opinion.

we do the normal tipping stuffed in hand-made envelopes, and during the halloween party we leave our candy on the table with a note for them to help themselves or take some home to the kids :)

Yep, this is why I stopped leaving the tip at the end of my stay. :)

We used envelopes on our last trip mainly because I thought they'd be fun to make! Only one day did Mousekeeping not take the money and our room hadn't been cleaned until almost 4:00 that day anyways.

I always leave it by whatever neat little towel animal they make and make it a point to put it on the bed so they have to move it when they make the bed. Just thought it was curious they didn't take it.

I noticed some of the mousekeepers don't speak any English so it might have just been that they weren't sure what it said on the outside? That's the only reason I can think of.
