Saturday 16th December

I woke up at 4am followed by DD at 4:15 and DS at 4:20, we gave in and put the TV on at 4:50am. We watched some rubbish or other until reasonable o’clock and got dressed and left the room just after 6am. We went to Mara where DS & DD had Frosties and milk and I had a latte and a chocolate croissant. We hung around in reception as it was still too early to go anywhere then went to get the bus to AK. We arrived for 8:15am and I bought a coffee for me and some warm cookies for the kids at the entrance. We were the first at the turn styles but not for long. We got chatting to a nice family from Maryland and I exchanged e-mail address with them.

We were let into the park at 8:45am and walked to the rope just in front of the tree of life. A CM chatted to DS and he was picked for a Magical Moment - he got to open the board which shows all the ride wait times and park info.

He got a big cheer from the crowd, a Magical Moments certificate and a one time fast pass, which we used later in the day on Everest. I could see he was very anxious as he didn’t know what was expected of him but he coped very well. Once he had finished it was time for the bus with Minnie, Goofy and Pluto on to come and open the park

We went to Dino land first and the kids had two goes on Primeval Whirl. We then went to wait for the 10am Nemo show. It was packed in there by the time the show started. The show was good but not one I’d bother to see again. We went over to Everest next and used the super fast pass - the kids got to ride at the front which they said was great.

We were hungry now and got some chicken strips and a drink from one of the vendors. After our pit stop we walked through the Jungle Trail and saw the Bats and the Tigers which were our favorites.

We were very tired at this stage but walked over to the safari. We saw way more animals at this time of year as the weather wasn’t as humid. We even saw two cheetas. Next up it was time for a coffee for me and a chocolate cake for DS in Tusker House. DD went for an ice-cream which I got from one of the vendors. While we where there a musician came in and played as he walked through the resturant.

We were still tired after our refreshment break so we left the park at 1pm, we just missed the bus but didn’t have to wait long for another one. AK was busier than MK yesterday but still manageable. We went back to our room and got changed to go to the pool. It was much busier than yesterday but DD’s friend was there and they played together. A was feeling left out so he and I played catch and a few other games which involved him drowning me. Both DD & DS did the 3pm pool activity and had great fun.

DH called, it was cold in Ireland and he and the cat were missing us. I noticed that the pool guys at AK were always going round picking up dumped towels and re-lining up chairs and making the backs all the same height, something I’d not noticed at any of the other resorts.

I got chatting to a nice family from California who’s DD had special needs and exchanged e-mail addresses with them and promised to send some info that I had in Ireland.

We had some burgers by the pool and went back the room by about 5pm. We got changed and then got a taxi to the Premium Outlets which costs $25 inc tip. I got some runners as the Crocs had given me a blister  DD got some ecco sandals for $19 and DS was pleased with two packs of Yu-Gi-Oh Cards. I also got him a couple of t-shirts and 11 pins in a tin on a flashing lanyard in the Disney outlet.

We got a taxi back to ALK and dumped the stuff in the room before heading out to the savannah to do the night vision viewing. It was really cool and well worth it if you are in the lodge in the evening. We were back in the room and in bed by 9pm.

Weather Warm and cloudy with a bit of sun we only needed shorts and T-shirts.

Another lovely day, how lovely that your son was picked to open the board:thumbsup2

I love your reports Jakki, they are inspiring me to try and keep up!!

Another great day.

Did you see many animals at night?

Ours was a very small Savannah (there's a picture of it in Day 4's report) and the whole time we were there we only had two giraffes who hugged the fence at the back and looked longingly at the "proper" Savannah where their mates probably where. We also had one Impala type lad and only once we saw an Ostrich. The Giraffes seemed to go in at night and I think the Impala did too although when I looked out at about 6am one morning he was there.

We did some night vision viewing on the main Savannah and only saw Giraffes.

I love your reports Jakki, they are inspiring me to try and keep up!!

Aww thanks

How cool for your son to be picked to open up the board and great that you got a photo of it to show your DH (and of course us!)

A nice relaxing afternoon and evening to end off a busy morning.
