Sunday 29th July

I woke about half 6 and put the coffee on - I’m still getting grief from the bites but they’ve got to ease up soon. I heard DS mooching about and went to see if he was OK. He was trying to plug the clock in his room in so that he could see what the time was to know if it was too early to get up. He came downstairs and by the time he did DD also got up.

We phoned my Dad as it was his 73rd Birthday today and wished him a Happy Birthday. I caught up on the trippies and the kids watched some TV until I sent DD to wake DH at nearly 8am. After all we are heading to the Poly today so there is no time for a lay in.

We arrived at about half 9 and went to check in curbside. They took our details and someone came to take us to the Hawaii Lounge in one of those resort buggies. Every one was looking at us wondering why we were being driven around the resort. DH was wondering what was going on and it was only when we pulled up at the lounge and he saw concierge that he realized where we were staying. We checked in at the lounge and they were very helpful and nice. Our room wasn’t ready but we were able to leave our bag and go up and have some coffee and breakfast. DH and the kids went off to the pool but I didn’t want to risk getting my legs wet so I had a good look around the resort.

I went back to the pool around half 11 and got everyone something to eat from Captain Cooks. DD had a cheese flat bread, DS had a plain burger and DH and I had grilled cheese sandwiches, which were lovely, as they also had blue cheese in them.

DS had enough of the pool so once he was dried off we went back to the lounge and our room was ready. We were in 3529 garden view, which had a lovely view over the quiet pool. DS and I unpacked then went to get DH and DD. We chilled in the room for a while then got dressed and headed over to Epcot.

We walked to the TCC then caught the Epcot Monorail. We had a few hours before Tiki Fest so we went on Soarin and were lucky enough to get row 1 and It was as good as ever. Next up was Test Track and we made it all the way round without stopping once. I don’t know if my memory is fading but it seemed much faster than usual. Lastly it was the new Nemo ride as DH had not been on this before. When we got off the ride we walked over to just outside the Coral Reef restaurant to wait until Tiki Fest started.

At about quarter past 6 we were led into a side entrance near the restaurant and up a flight of stairs to the private dining room where CM’s were waiting with ice-cold beer, wine or a soft drink. The dining room was lovely and was set up with tables and a nice buffet area.

We found a table then went off to have a look at the fish swimming past in the huge tank. As well as fish we saw a couple of divers, a stingray and a huge turtle. The food was lovely and washed down with a couple of glasses of White Zinfandel. There was Lei making for the children and we were entertained by singers and dancers from the Polynesian.

The kids got to hula and then they called their parents up to try. DD got DH to do it and we all had a great laugh watching.

Day6-06.jpg

Steve (Tikiman) and Lisa from Magical Vacations who had organized the event said a few words and we had a raffle with some great prizes. Unfortunately we didn’t win anything but there’s always next time. DD was disappointed that she didn’t win the best costume prize with her Hawaiian meets Irish outfit. Afterwards each family got a gift and we were then taken to a private viewing area beside the Rose and Crown for Illuminations. It was one of the best places I’ve seen the fireworks from. All in all we had a great evening and both Steve and Lisa were really nice people who share a passion for Disney and the Poly. There won’t be a 2008 get together but watch this space for a 2009 Tiki Fest Cruise.

Day6-04.jpg

We left Epcot and tried to get back to the Poly concierge lounge to watch Wishes. We made it at five to ten. DS was tired so he went back to the room while DH, DD and I watched Wishes. It was another great location and for the first time ever we got to hear the sound track that accompanies the fireworks and it gave them an extra dimension.

DD was pooped so we went back to the room and all crashed. It was a great day and one we will remember for a long time. When we got back to the room the pins I’d arranged for the kids were there as well as a special signed birthday card for DD from Jasmine and Aladdin

There was also a chocolate picture of the Poly for us

and 24 cans of caffeine Tree diet coke for DS as it is all he will drink. They were very nice touches and we were all pleased. We were tired so we all fell quickly asleep.

Tomorrow: More Poly

Wow what a fab day! Watching Wishes from the Poly's concierge lounge was one of our holiday highlights last summer - I just love that resort! A Tiki Fest cruise sounds like fun - I shall definitely watch out for that... :goodvibes

A truly magical day - apart from the bites, hope they didn't trouble you for the whole holiday. Your daughter must have been thrilled with her card, a lovely Disney touch, and the Polynesian chocolate looked very tasty indeed.
