Friday 27th July

I woke at 6am this morning and the millions of bites were giving me some serious grief as they had nearly all formed small blisters. To take my mind off it I opened the curtains so that I could watch the sun rise which was lovely. DD woke next and we chatted quietly until DS woke. I let the kids play their Nintendo’s while I caught up on the trip report and DH slept on. I went down the pool with the kids at 8am to get our table and DH put the cases in the car, then went to the pharmacy to get something for the bites. It turns out I am allergic to them which is why they were so bad and the pharmacist gave me extra strength hydrocortisone cream and an anti histamine.

DD wanted to get her hair braided so we stayed around the pool until it was her turn to get her hair done and the boys went to the ocean. She chose her beads and the lady started braiding her hair. It was Liz who’s done DD’s hair for the past 3 trips and is really nice

Another girl came to get her hair done but after a few minutes the lady braiding it came over and whispered something to Liz and she went to look at the girl’s hair. They called her mum over and it seems the girl had nits. They obviously didn’t do her hair and both the ladies went to wash their hands afterwards, which I was pleased about. They also called housekeeping to tell them which room the family were in - I presume so they could completely replace all the blankets and pillows etc. DD’s hair took about half an hour and looked lovely afterwards.

It was very hot so we showered and changed into our going to Orlando clothes before having some lunch and one last game of mini golf and said goodbye to the beach

Day2-07.jpg

You all know how much we love Vero and it was another great trip but for us it was a mistake to go there right at the beginning of our holiday. For a start we wasted a whole beach day by not arriving until 8pm which meant we only really had two days to enjoy the resort. Also we were still tired from the time difference and I was worried about getting too much sun at the start of the holiday so we didn’t spend full days by the pool / ocean like we would have later in the holiday. From now on we will make our Vero stay towards the end of our trip so we have it to look forward to.

We left Vero at about quarter past 12. We stopped at a Super Target just off the I-95 for villa supplies and a Starbucks. We drove to the villa using our favorite road

Day3-01.jpg

We made it to the villa at Sunset Lakes at about quarter to four then the fun began. I typed in the access code but the door wouldn’t open. I tried it again but still no luck so I opened the lock box, got the key and went in. I typed the alarm code in but it wouldn’t switch off, I tried again but still no luck and after 45 seconds the alarm went off and it was very loud.

The kids were frightened by the very loud noise and DH was convinced that I was a complete idiot who couldn’t type a code in. I got a call from the alarm company and gave them the password and told them everything was OK but it was a real struggle to hear them above the noise. Once they realised I wasn’t robbing the place they contacted the management company who gave me another code to put in which turned the alarm off. The Management Co then called me back once I’d got off the phone from the alarm company to give me the correct code. It seemed that we’d been given the right digits but in the wrong order.

Once silence was restored DH & I unpacked while the kids played pool. We went to dinner at around half 5 and it was Golden Corral for DS who had been looking forward to eating here since we booked the trip. He ate his fill of steak and pasta and all was well with the world. About half way through our meal a tour group of about 50 Japanese kids arrived all wearing the same t-shirts and the place was overrun. Luckily we’d nearly finished and as we were all tired we came straight back to the villa.

The kids went in the pool, Steve chilled checking out the 9 million TV channels and discovered that Celebrity Bull Riding was going to be on later. I pottered around sorting out our stuff. One of the new additions to the villa since we stayed there last year was a pool table so we all played pool before watching some TV and going to bed about half 9. My legs were doing attack of the itchy things and driving me insane and I looked like a plague victim.

Tomorrow - Seaworld.

Great report! bet you nearly had a fit when the alarm went off!

Love the hair!

I should look into having that done as my hair gets soooo frizzy in the humidity!

Thanks for sharing!

Lovely report and love the photo of your DD, her hair did look lovely and must have been so easy to look after.

..... her hair did look lovely and must have been so easy to look after.

It was really easy to look after, I just had to remember to put spray suntan lotion on her head so that her scalp didn't burn

OMG about the alarm, thank goodness you got it all sorted!

Beautiful braids!!

Thanks for your thoughts on the timing of your Vero stay. I would definately follow your advice and stay nearer the end as it sounds like a great way to relax after a lot of theme park walking etc.

Great report. Thanks

Don't leave it right until the end though - as the drive up from Vero added onto a long journey home wouldn't be a good idea. We tend to have at least 1 or two days back in Orlando before we fly home

This year we did the cruise (used our DVC points) in the middle weekend of our two week vacation and broke up our holiday nicely. I think we would do something like that to go to Vero

Poor you, Jakki, the bites sound horrible. And I'm sure you could have done without the alarm going off at the villa - but great that you have a pool table this year. I loved your daughter's hair. Do you know whether they do the cornrows like that at WDW or just the braiding? I would love that doing but I am scared of braiding due to a nasty having-to-have-it-cut-out incident as a teenager! :scared1:

I'm really not sure but I know they do them at Universal. She keeps getting them done at Vero as the lady is so nice and does them real;ly well
