Monday 13th August

I had a lie in today and was up after DS but still before DD & DH. DH wanted to go to Universal today as he is getting parked out at Disney and is starting to feel it’s the same old same old there. I wanted to get another pair of Sketchers for DD so we said that we’d head over to the new Prime-1 (Beltz) and take a chance that the Sketchers store would be open.

We got there for 10am and It’s looking good here now and this place will give the Premium outlets a run for their money. There’s still some work to do and a few of the stores are still not open but give it a couple of weeks and I’m sure it will be fully open.

We went into the Nike shop where holiday tradition dictates that DH gets a couple of t-shirts and DD also got a couple of water bottles for school. DS was bored already so we found the Sketchers shop and DD got her second pair of Bikers and a pair of Waterbugs half price which she said were way more comfortable then her Crocs. (This lasted all of 3 hours as they gave her blisters and she couldn’t wear them anymore).

Shopping completed in record time we did a quick restroom stop and then set off for Universal. 4 minutes later we were pulling into Spiderman 356 and once through bag check where Stan and Eric (a couple of pensioners from the UK) did a great job. There seemed to be a lot of people in the city walk area - but then there always does. We set off for Universal where DH spotted Homer and Marge posing for photo’s We’d just missed them as they were going in but DH is determined to get his picture with them this holiday.

First up was Jimmy Neutron where I got the kids on the ride then waited in the gift shop as this one makes me feel sick. They enjoyed it and we went across the road for Shrek-4D. It was another good one but I sat in the Stationary seats just to be on the safe side.

We decided to get something to eat and on a recommendation we went to Finnegan’s Bar and Grill. We got a table with no wait and once we’d got drinks we placed our order which was Fish and Chips for DH & I, Cheese burger for DD and a plain burger for DS. We also order the Onion and Potato Web to start. Now I think we ordered the wrong stuff because none of us really liked the food here. For some reason DD, who could eat more cheeseburgers than Elvis hardly touched hers and said it made her feel a bit sick. DS ate his burger but he said the fries were too salty and this is from someone who keeps the salt mines of Siberia in business at home. DH and I thought the starter was too greasy and also the batter on the fish was very greasy too. The fish itself was nice but I only ate half mine and couldn’t face any more. The meal probably wasn’t helped by DD spilling a large full cup of sprite everywhere, by the time that was sorted our meals were cold and even less appealing. Some of the items on the menu did look nice but I’m not sure we’d give this place a try again.

DD agreed to try the Mummy with DH but as we knew DS would be too scared, he and I took in a few sights and he had an ice cream. We got a call from DD to say the Mummy was awesome but that there was no way DS would like it. As we were near Starbucks I ordered coffee for DH & I and it was ready by the time they caught up with us.

Next it was the reason for our visit - Curious George’s playground and as the coffee was so hot we took it with us and drank it there. The kids had been really looking forward to this and once we got there they disappeared and apart from a fleeting glimpse of them every now and then or the occasional drink break we hardly saw them for the next 2 + hours. They had a blast and really enjoyed themselves and the water kept them nice and cool. There are benches which are kept cool by giant fans and water mist so DH and I were happy as well.

If you’ve got kids and you’ve not been here before I’d really recommend that you plan some time here as they get a chance to cool down and let off steam. Also if you’ve got younger kids in your group they could play here with an adult while the rest of the group does some of the other rides in the park. We did see lots of unhappy kids being dragged out by their parents who clearly wanted to go on more rides rather than let the kids just enjoy themselves here.

So two hours later they were ready to leave and we decided to finish off with MIB. I’ve done this before and really liked it but for some reason, this time it was really spinning round and round and I got off feeling really sick - oh well there’s another one to cross off my list.

We left the park and DD got changed into some dryer clothes back at the car but DS said he was OK. We went to Sweet Tomato and although it was lovely I didn’t eat much as I was still feeling a bit rough from all that spinning.

There was a vote for Fantasia mini golf and we decided that as long as it didn’t rain or the wait was less than 20 minutes we’d go for it. Well it didn’t rain and it was a 17 minute wait so with an 50% AP discount we were playing the Garden course at Fantasia.

DD in her usual obsession to be first just ran from hole to hole not even bothering to watch the rest of us, in the process she lost one of the poppers that hold her Crocs straps and couldn’t find it anywhere. There were the usual DS / DD arguments but over all it was a good game with DH winning.

The boys are going to come back when we are staying at the Beach Club and play the Fairways course. While we were playing I spotted this hidden Mickey cloud.

We got home about 8pm, DH and I had showers and the kids went in the pool There was a major bit of agro between them so they were called in and went straight to bed after their showers although with a TV in each of the bedrooms I’m not sure how much of a punishment this really was  .

Tomorrow - AK in the morning and Pool in the afternoon.

Ohh another fab day.
I think our girls will love the curious george part, and check out that mickey cloud :thumbsup2
