Tinks Tiki Fest Tour – Day 2 Vero Beach 25th July

Cast

Me – 45 Never tires of going to Florida
DH – 51 Designated Driver and Now Eligible for a Senior Discount
DS – 10 Six Trips later and still hunting for Yu-Gi-Oh Cards
DD – 9 Wants to be a Pirate Princess

Wednesday 25th July

We woke at 4am and as DH was still asleep DS, DD and I tried to stay quite for as long as we could. DS’s extremely loud stage whispers did the trick and DH woke at 5am. We still had the problem of the non flushing toilet which was now gross.

We had breakfast at around 5am and afterwards I tried to call maintenance but their line wasn’t working. I went down to the front desk to report the problem (and also use the loo down there) and they said maintenance didn’t start until 7am but would get some up straight away to sort the problem out.

DH got up and went onto the beach at about 6:30am to take some photos and the rest of us had our suntan lotion and cozzies on and were in the ocean at 7am. I took a photo of the view from our room

There were a couple of people walking but we were the only ones swimming. I went to the pool at 8am and got us a table and umbrella and stayed there until the lads joined me at about half 8.

We didn’t want to over do it the first day so we stayed by the pool until half 11 then went back to the room and out shopping. On the way we passed Spongebob’s house

Day2-01.jpg

First stop was the Indian River Mall where some school kids were on a day out

We went to the food court where we had pasta (DS) Pizza (DD) Lasagna (DH) and a Subway for me. It was quite a nice mall but we weren’t in the mood for a serious shop so just had a look in Sears and the Disney Store were I got DS a T-shirt in the sale for the Pirates and Princess Party. I also got a Starbucks coffee, which was nice.

Next up was Circuit City for DH who got a Crumpler camera bag on sale at $21, a polarizing filter, some rechargeable batteries and a 4Gb USB memory card – so he was pleased. While he was in Circuit City we had a look in Petco and saw some cute kittens.

We went to Wal-Mart next trying to find some Boogie boards to use in the ocean but they didn’t have any so we tried the Target across the road. Still no Boogie boards but DD got some Bratz outfits fir $2 in the sale and DS got some Spongebob Lego also reduced.

There was a massive storm as we left with the heaviest rain I’d ever seen in Florida. Visibility was nil and we were driving very slowly. We eventually out ran the storm and made it back to the hotel at about 3:30pm in brilliant sunshine and were very pleased to find out toilet fixed but didn’t envy the person who’s job it was to fix it. The pool and beach were closed though because of the weather so we chilled in the room and went back to the pool at 5:30pm once it was all open again.

We got something to eat at around half 7 which was a hot dog for DD chicken strips for DS and DH and I shared a very large pizza - we only ate half and kept the rest for lunch the next day. I also had a Starbucks frozen cocktail with cream on the top.

We showered and went to bed to watch some TV and crashed at half 9.

Tomorrow - more Vero and attack of the Noseeums

The view from your room is fantastic :thumbsup2

I love that view Jakki, hope we get one just like it next year.

Jakki, that photo from your balcony is simply stunning! Was it with DH's new camera? What breed is it? I know breed's not the right word but you know what I mean (jetlag) ;)

LOL - I know what you mean.

I actually took that one with my new Fuji Finepix 5700. DH also has a Fuji 6500 which is a bit more upmarket than mine

Is it more points for a sea view. If so it seems to be definately worth it.

How far away is the shopping Mall from the hotel?

Great photos

It's 10 points a night for a standard view and only 12 for an Ocean view so well worth it. One thing to note though is, the first time we had a view over the pool with a sideways Ocean View.

The Mall was only about a 15 minute drive away. One thing we noticed is that there was more bargains here. It's probably because in Orlando there are hoards of tourists after all the bargains where as here it's mainly locals

Sounds like great point value. Did you use your points for your stay at the Poly?

No we got a great rate from Magical Vacations as part of Tiki Fest. I don't think I'd use our points for a resort stay I'd either get a AAA or AP rate

A lovely day, Jakki. The picture of the view from your room is stunning, it looks too idyllic to be real!
