Friday 10th August

I was up a 7am this morning followed by DD who’s feet were hurting. What happened yesterday was that she burned her toes walking around TL with no shoes on. The two big toes are very sore and the others are all slightly burnt too. A word of warning to please wear water park shoes as the concrete areas are very very hot and kids feet wouldn’t be as tough as adults. I put some plasters on her big toes and she said that felt better but I don‘t think she‘d be up for loads of walking at Universal. I also washed and put plasters on her cut hand plus some antibiotic ointment.

DS was next up, I’m strict on bedtime at home as I know that DS needs at least 10 hours sleep but here he can decide for himself when he goes to sleep. I don’t think he’s been staying awake that late but the constant late nights and full days are getting to him and he’s very tired this morning. It looks like a change of plan is called for so once DH gets up we decided to switch to Gatorland but we don’t tell the kids.

We’ve never been here before and I hadn’t really considered it but I read a good review of it in a trip report so we decided to give it a go. It’s in Hunters Creek right by a Super Target so even if Gatorland blows out the entire day won’t be lost. We set off armed with a discount coupon and arrived about 9:40am. By the time we parked and paid to get in we were ready for the first show, which was gator wrestling. It was a good show and the two guys doing it were funny and informative. Afterwards the kids had their photo taken on a gator.

We spent a good couple of hours looking around and watching the 3 shows, there was a great one with spiders and a very big snake.

There was also a guy walking around with various animals for the kids and adults to look at and touch.

There were some walkways out over the lake where you could see some really big gators

As it was very hot we let the kids cool off in the splash area where they happily spent an hour or so. They had a great time here although we saw quite a few kids who were not wearing water shoes slip over.

Once they were nice and cool we went on the little train ride, fed a few gators and saw some of the many parrots that were here

We didn’t want to eat here so we got directions to the nearest Mc’D’s for lunch which was only 5 minutes away. When we got back to Gatorland we did some more stuff and finished off in the splash park again.

We finally left about half 3 and we were all exhausted from the heat. I changed the kids clothes and we went into Super Target where we bought some bits and bobs. I got a takeaway pizza for DD but she was just too tired to eat it. DH and I had a Starbucks coffee and decided to get a Subway near the villa and I said I’d cook pasta for DS.

We stopped for gas on the way home ($2.63 a gallon) and then the Subs. DD was feeling rough so I packed her off to bed with Gatorade to drink and once she’d rested and had plenty to drink she felt loads better. We spent the evening chilling and all had an early night (although I have the feeling DS stayed up late again)

Tomorrow - who knows I will see what everyone is like in the morning. It could be Mini golf, Disney Quest, Cinema or all of those or perhaps Universal although that’s looking unlikely.

I came on to check for your next report :goodvibes
Im enjoying this TR too.
Gatorland looks like a good day out (Ill mark this down as a day out).
Fab pics not sure about the hairy one mind

fab photos, you can see the hairs on the hairs on the spider :scared1:

Gatorland looks like a pleasant break from the theme parks :thumbsup2

We enjoyed Gatorland too Jakki but OMG was it hot there?! We were there as it opened and over the very hot lunchtime period and if there was any air con there we didn't find it!

I can recomment the fan in the shaded area at the water play area though ;)

We liked the train ride but it annoyed me slightly paying extra for it popcorn::

I was too mean to pay the extra to sit on the real gator as you can see :teeth:

It was very hot there so the wet area was very welcome (as were the fans :thumbsup2 )

I thought it made a nice change from the usual stuff. We brought the "extra's" package which gave you the train ride, photo's on a Gator and food to feed the Gators and to be honest this just wasn't worth it so I wouldn't bother with any of that again I'd just go for the basic admission .

Always nice to try something new.
