Monday 6th August

So we should be going to Typhoon Lagoon as that was the plan. I was up around 7am today followed not long after by DS and DD but there was no sign of DH. When I went to check on him at about half 8 , he'd had an upset tummy last night and still wasn't feeling great plus he was very clammy. There was no point in going to TL as he just wasn’t up for it so the kids and I decided to go to AK as it is only 5 minutes or so away from the villa and let DH chill at home.

DH dropped us at AK and I said I’d text him when we wanted to come home. On the way in we spotted these guys doing some maintenance work to the signs over the parking booths. I’m sure they though I was mad as I took their photo (and they’d probably be right)

There were very long lines at the turnstiles so we went in through the Rainforest café where we just walked straight in. First up had to be Everest where the kids rode and with the aid of a fast pass rode again. I took a few pictures and chatted to some other chickens who weren’t riding. I noticed that already it was hotter than a hot day in hell, that’s one thing about AK it doesn’t seem to get any cooling breezes. DD had some great coaster hair and as I didn’t have a brush with me she was stuck like that for the rest of the time in AK (luckily she had a hat to cover it).

We did Khali next and although the board said a 20 minute wait it was a walk on - the 20 minutes probably referred to the amount of time it took to walk from the entrance to the actual ride as it does seem a long walk to get there. We managed to stay dry so the kids wanted to go on again. I know that the odds of me staying dry for a second time were shortening so I opted out and let them ride. As any good mother would, I waited on the bridge and pressed the button to give them an extra soaking as their raft went past. DS got slightly wet this time so a 3rd trip was called for where he got absolutely soaked and then moaned because there was water in his Crocs.

Day14-04.jpg

We decided to do the Jungle trek but I wasn’t hopeful of seeing many animals due to the heat. We saw the fruit bats who were fanning them selves to try and stay cool and some other sleeping animals including this kitty - anyone want to rub his tummy?

Day14-03.jpg

There were no sign of any other life though as all the animals were probably inside in air-conditioned comfort. Our next plan was to walk to Dinoland for some fries and a go on Primeval Whirl. As we walked back past Everest the lines were now huge and the fast pass return time was a week next Wednesday. As we were walking past the very long line (trying not to look smug as we’d already ridden) we spotted the character boat and gave Minnie a wave.

We also walked past the New Nemo Show and the lines here seemed just as long. We stopped for fries and a cold drink but the heat was getting to us. We managed a go on Primeval and one on the Dino equivalent of Dumbo before deciding it was just too hot. DS and DD were doing well in the world bickering championships so we decided to call it a day and head back to the villa for a swim. We did want to do Killamangaro but there wouldn’t have been much point as I’m sure all the animals would have had more sense than to have been out in that heat.

We stopped for an ice-cream and I sent a text to DH asking him to collect us. I got a coffee at the entrance to the park and DD got another frozen drink that turned her teeth and tongue blue. We sat on a bench for a few minutes before DH got there. He’d bought cold drinks for everyone but only DS had one.

We went back to the villa and straight into the pool where it was lovely and cool, we stayed here for a couple of hours until hunger drove us out. We showered and changed and headed for the Wal-Mart on the 27 as DD wanted to get a misting spray fan to keep her cool. They had some here but not the ones she wanted. It was looking like we’d be stuck with Golden Corral for dinner again as the Chilis still wasn’t finished but then I had the brain wave of Black Angus and as it served steak DS agreed to try it.

We went to the one on the 192 near the villa and as it was only about 4pm there was hardly anyone in there. We ordered, a Cowgirl cut, medium well for DD, a 12oz center cut well done for DS and I and a 32oz T-bone medium for DH. They came with a side salad and the kids were laughing at all the choice of dressings you could get.

The steaks arrived and DS had asked for rice, unfortunately it was a saffron rice so he didn’t like it but as I had ordered fries we just swapped. The meal was lovely and we all left too stuffed for desert. I knew the kids would want to go swimming as soon as we got back to the villa so as a delaying tactic we went to the Nike shop on the 192 but there wasn’t anything we liked. We also stopped at a Walgreen’s where DD found her misting fan and I bought the worlds biggest calculator. Everyone is always borrowing the one on my desk - at least this way I’ll be able to find it easily when I want it back.

We also decided to take a trip into Celebration where we looked at the dancing fountains. DD was desperate to play in them so we promised her that we would come back another day for her to do that. We had a couple of coffee’s on those famous rocking chairs (cheers Mike) and then set off for home.

Day14-01.jpg

We got back to the villa about 7ish and the kids went straight in the pool. DH and I chilled and after about half an hour the kids started bickering again so they were both ordered in. DD watched the TV in her room and I played a game of Pool with DS before he watched some TV. I was sorting some washing when I noticed a wet patch on the floor outside the laundry room. It appeared to be dripping from the ceiling - I had visions of DH leaving the shower running and loosing our security deposit but when he investigated it seemed to be coming from the air conditioning unit and by the looks of the ceiling it wasn’t a new leak. It was only a small drip so put a towel down to stop anyone slipping (not that anyone apart from me would even know where the laundry room was) and I’ll call the management company in the morning.

DD was looking wrecked and I was tired so we went to bed at about half 9.

Tomorrow - Dine with Shamu and a meet

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: they do look a bit bemused!

I got a similar look from an American lady in the Cracker Barrell car park as I was taking a photo of the sign. She gave us a wide berth in the shop I can tell you :rotfl2:

really enjoying your reports. love the info on food!

Lovely photos Jakki, hope your DH recovered quickly.

It does always seem so hot at animal kingdom.
