Friday 24th August
So the day has finally come and we have to go home. I didnt make any notes today so it is all from memory nearly 4 weeks later.
I am not sure what time we got up but DD & I went down to the Boardwalk Bakery and got a breakfast muffin (ham, egg, cheese on an English muffin) for DH & I, a chocolate croissant for DD and a chocolate muffin for DS. I also got some coffee for DH & I.
We ate this back in the room and then set about doing the final bit of packing. DH started the mammoth job of taking all the cases down to the car and made a couple of journeys.
We said our find farewells to the Boardwalk around 10am and will definitely be back here for longer next time. It was an easy drive to the airport and we dropped the car off at the Budget desk with no problems.
I was expecting huge lines for check in but Continental had a one line check in and as you got close to the front there was a member of staff guiding you to the nearest free check in desk. We only waited about 15 minutes to check in and it was very straight forward. We were reminded of the new security rules of no liquids / gels of any kind on the aircraft.
When we got rid of the cases we went into the food court where DD had a cheeseburger, DS had chicken strips, DH had a coffee and some muffins that we had left over and I had a Chinese. We were told that it was taking about 30 minutes to get through security so after a quick look around the shops we joined the line. It didnt take too long but we were all made to take off our shoes and everything was given a through check.
There is not much to do once you are through security so DH and I had our last Starbucks for a while and the kids played on their Nintendos. We noticed it was raining and that our flight was delayed. It was delayed for an hour and it would be cutting it fine to make the next flight.
I gave DD her anti sickness tablet and again she threw up immediately after having it again. Ill have to speak to our GP about what to try next time.
Our plane took off only 45 minutes late and it was fairly uneventful, DD was only sick once. We landed in Newark and had less than an hour to get to our next gate and try and get something to eat. We all managed to get some food and got to the gate just as they were calling people to board.
We had another uneventfull journey but the only good thing was that the journey time would only be 5 hours 15 minutes (there must have been some tail wind.) Even though the journey time was short we didnt make up any time as it took us well over an hour to taxi to the runway and take off. DD fell asleep on me after a while, DS also managed to doze on and off but I couldnt get any sleep and spent the time playing with DDs Nintendo.
We landed in a very cold and wet Dublin at 6:55am and as our train wouldnt be leaving until 9:30 and we were too shattered to wait we decided to get a taxi home. It cost 150 and took about 2 hours. DS who was exhausted was sick a couple of times (luckily he gave us some warning and the taxi managed to pull over.)
My mum and dad were waiting for us at home with a cooked breakfast, which we devoured. When they left DD and DH went to collect the cats.
I managed to stay awake by unpacking and sorting our stuff out. DH spent the day cat napping, while DS chilled on the sofa watching some TV. DD went off to play with the cats I found the three of them curled up asleep an hour later
The kids and I finally succumbed and we were tucked up in bed fast asleep by 8pm
Thats all folks although I will do a final thoughts post to sum up the holiday.
