Day 28 - The Boardwalk and Illuminations
DD and I were awake just after 7am and DH had another bad nights sleep on the sofa bed so after coffee and a muffin he went in to the king size bed. DS had just woken up so DH got the bed all to himself and I said Id wake him around 9am. Once we all had breakfast we set off for the Boardwalk just before 10am.
Our first stop was the Wal-mart in Sebastian as I needed to get two long sleeve tops for DS and DD. We left Ireland during the heat wave so I didnt think to pack two jackets for them and it will probably be freezing when we land back early Saturday morning. We got the jackets, had a McDonalds and were on the road again by half 11. Once we started off again I put the DVD RV (staring Robin Williams) on and it kept the kids quiet for most of the uneventful journey, which was full of the usual long, straight, nothing to see here roads.
We stopped at Super Target at Seven Dwarves for a restroom stop and a Starbucks for DH & I and set off again to darkening skys. We turned off on the SR535 and were soon on the familiar WDW roads. The rain started and it was lashing by the time we arrived at the Boardwalk.
Our room wasnt ready so we went off to the International Gateway to activate our APs. We were changing them from regular AP vouchers to DVC APs, which meant we had about a $400 refund due. The CM seemed to get his head around what I wanted to do but didnt have $400 cash so he refunded the money on to my American debit card. Luckily, when we got our APs, we checked the date on the back as they were printed with an expiry date of 8th August, which was when we bought the vouchers. The CM reprinted them are we are good to go until 25th August 2007.
DH went back to the Boardwalk to wait for our room and the kids and I went into Epcot for a while. We did Figments Journey into imagination stopped for an ice-cream then went to do the rides in Mexico and Norway. It was just after 4pm so we decided to go back to the Boardwalk to see if our room was ready and try and swim in the pool. On the way past Canada who did we spot but Craig and co who were just waiting for Off Kilter to start. DD was delighted to see them again and showed the girls her braided hair. They were telling us about the snake that was in their villa I believe it was a 10 foot python which Craig managed to wrestle before grabbing it round the throat and throwing it out of the villa
. We had a quick chat and then we went to get the boat back to the Boardwalk.
There was no sign of DH in reception so I went to find our room number and we started the very long walk to our room. We were on the 4th floor and had a great view of the pool.
Plus you could also see MGM and ToT
I sorted out a few things while the kids watched TV and as there was Still no sign of DH I called him on his mobile. He was sitting down in reception waiting for us
. He came up to the room and we decided to go swimming as DS and DD couldnt wait to try out the clown slide.
Unfortunately just as we were getting ready the pool closed due to thunder so we just watched some TV. A bit later I could see some lifeguard activity around the pool so we decided to chance it and go down there. The lifeguards said they were just waiting for some replacement guards to arrive and then they could open the pool. DS and DD started lining up for the slide and when the pool opened about 5 minutes later they were first down.
We all tried the slide and while it was fun it was a bit of a butt burner as it had loads of ridges all the way down. We stayed in the pool until around 7pm then went back to the room to get ready for Illuminations.
The kids were hungry and wanted to go to Electric Umbrella (I wont even bother to tell you what we ate as you can probably work it out for yourself at this stage.) There was hardly anyone there as most people were probably tucking into a nice dinner in the world showcase. On our way to Electric Umbrella we bumped into Craig and his crew again (I am seriously thinking of getting a restraining order
) They were still hanging around in Canada waiting for their Le Cellier ADR but assured us that they had actually done other things since we saw them earlier and not just spent the entire time in Canada.
We finished our gourmet meal and went back into the world showcase where we took up the same spot on the terrace between France and the UK. It wasnt too long until Illuminations started and we had a great view again.
Once the show was over it was back out the International gateway where DD & I took the boat and DS and DH walked - well they were supposed to walk but we spotted them running so that they could beat us back to the Boardwalk.
We went back to our room and were tucked up safely in bed by 10pm ready for the journey home tomorrow
