Day 26 - More Vero Beach
I was awake at about half 7 and went to check on DH who had a very bad nights sleep on the sofa bed. I made some coffee and at 8am went down to the pool and got a table and umbrella in the shade. Unfortunately there had been (to quote Disney) a biological accident in the pool and it was closed.
It seems someone had left a dirty diaper in there, they had to chemically treat the pool and it would remain closed until some time in the afternoon. I honestly cant believe the mentality of some people.
I went back up to the room and DD had woken up, she was in chatting to DH and as he looked so tired I suggested he got in with DS and got some more sleep. DS woke up about half 8 and once we had breakfast and got our sun screen on we headed down to the beach leaving DH time to sleep.
The ocean seemed much calmer this morning and it was lovely just catching the waves. The Williams gang were already there and DD went to play with Craigs DDs. The beach was busier than usual due to the pool being closed and they announced that there would be free mini golf and bike rentals all day to compensate. The golf was a good idea but none of us rushed to take up the free bike offer as the though of a gentle cycle around the 10 mile cycle path in this heat was a bit too much.
DH came down just after 11am and the kids were desperate to try the wave riders. They went and signed their life away and basically if they fell off and got eaten by sharks then it was nothing to do with Disney. They looked rather fetching in their safety gear
They all swam out to the wave rider and managed to get on although it looked a bit precarious when it was DHs turn.
They soon set off but DS was scared of going too far out (in case he got eaten by sharks) so they hugged the shore. They brought DD back after about 20 minutes as she wasnt too keen on going fast and she swam to shore.
DH and DS carried on but they didnt seem to be going much faster although DS seemed to enjoy driving. The life guard put out the big green flag which meant it was time to come in and DH opened it up and zoomed in. DS wasnt too impressed with that but said he enjoyed himself but doesnt want to do it again (I think he is still too worried about sharks).
While the lads were on the wave riders they announced that the pool was open so we went back to there and then got something to eat. It was the usual stuff but it was quick and easy to eat by the pool. DS and DH went off to play golf and DD went to play with Craigs girls again. We basically spent the day alternating between the ocean and the pool with the odd game of mini golf thrown in for good measure.
At some time during the afternoon Craig hired a couple of boogie boards and as one of his DDs didnt want to go in the ocean as she had just had her hair braded, they let DD use it. We all ended up having a go and it was great fun - although DH beached himself in a Shamu style. We persuaded the kids to leave the ocean just before 6pm and got something else to eat - we ordered a pizza but it was massive and we didnt manage to finish it. DS didnt eat much and insisted he wasnt hungry and I could see he was starting to get agitated which was probably due to being on the go all day.
They were showing a movie in the pool tonight
(well the movie wasnt actually in the pool but you could watch it while you were in the pool) and DS and DD said they wanted to stay and see it. We had a game of mini golf with all the kids and Craigs DD2won (although I have a feeling she gets her playing style from her dad
) all 4 of the kids were very liberal with their interpretation of the rules when the golf was over it was back into the pool to wait for the move. DS was getting more and more agitated so I told DH that I would take him back to the room and he and DD could stay and watch the move.
DS and I got showered and into our jammies. I got burnt on my back, shoulders and scalp today and DS was a bit burnt on his face so we will have to be careful tomorrow. DH and DD came back at half eight and DD was in floods of tears. It seems she was playing on the pirate ship by the pool with a small group of girls when another American girl came over and basically told her to go away as she wasnt allowed to play with them. DD is quite sensitive and walked away but burst into tears as soon as she couldnt be seen by the girls. DH said he was looking for her as he realised she wasnt at the ship and when he found her she wouldnt say why she was crying so they both came up to the room. DD and I had a chat and I tried to explain that some people are just not nice but her Aspergers is always going to make it hard for her. She had such a great day with Craigs DDs that it is shame these other kids had to spoil it. She was pooped after nearly 10 hours on the beach so she had a shower and went straight to bed.
Tomorrow - Even more Vero Beach and goodbye to our Cyber Friends
