Day 22 - The Neverland Club and Le Cellier

The past few weeks and our couple of late nights have been catching up on us. I woke up at around half 7 and didn’t see DD or DH until half 8. As we were taking it easy today we decided to use OKW’s internet access for 24 hours at a cost of $9.99.

DS was super tired and didn’t wake until just before 10am. Once he had a chance to wake up fully and have some breakfast we all went swimming and decided to drive to the main pool. The weather today was very cloudy and although it was still hot is was nice not to have the sun beating down on you. We started off with a few games of shuffle board - I have no idea what the rules were so we made them up as we went along and they involved making sure the kids won ;) I took the stuff back while DS and DD went for the first of many goes on the slide. We stayed in the pool for a couple of hours and had our usual burger, chicken strips, fries lunch.

The main pool was getting busy so we decided to go over to our nearest quiet pool. There were about 8 people here, unfortunately the peace was shattered once we arrived. I had to keep reminding DD that it was the “quiet pool”, not the “shout as loud as you can pool”. We stayed here for a while, then DD and I went back to the room at around half 2 to get showered and changed and told the boys to be back by 3pm. They got back just after 3 and were showered and ready to leave again just before 4pm.

Our plan had been to get the bus to the MK then take the resort monorail to the Polly but there was no sign of an MK bus so we took the first Epcot one and once at Epcot we got on the Monorail to the TTC. We got to ride with the driver and she told us that when they built AK the added a brand new Monorial facility out there.
They eventually plan to take the Epcot line out past MGM then on to AK in a big loop which will be great if it ever happens.

When we got to the TTC we walked over to the Polly and found the Neverland Club, our reservation was for 5pm and we got there just before then. We checked them in and the area was designed to look like Wendy‘s bedroom. We were given a pager and asked where we would be and they then announced that DS and DD were entering the Neverland Club and the both had to climb through the window out of Wendy’s bedroom and in to the club itself. DH and I headed back to the TTC to get the monorail to Epcot, all in all, the journey took nearly 2 hours and we arrived in Canada just on time for our ADR.

I forgot the camera today so here’s a photo from the other day

We were advised that they were running about 15 minutes late and we could wait inside or outside. We chose to wait inside where it was air-conditioned. We were soon called and shown to our table and my first impressions were that this restaurant was much smaller than I imagined but it had a nice atmosphere. It was packed and there wasn’t too much space between tables so it was rather cosy. Our server introduced herself and once she knew we were on the dining plan proceeded to recommend the most expensive items on the menu (We could hear this same spiel being given to all the other diners who arrived after us as well)

I went for the cheese soup and the 7oz filet steak on a cream cheese mash, DH went for the prawn cocktail and the 14oz strip steak with roast potatoes and we both had the chocolate whisky cake to finish. We had the (expensive but nice) smoothies recommended by our server but there were no refills on these so we ended up buying cokes as well. DH enjoyed his starters but I wasn’t keen on my soup. It was lukewarm and tasted like liquidised Mac and Cheese. If you like the overpowering, synthetic flavour of the US Mac and Cheese then you’ll probably like the cheese soup, if not then give it a miss and try one of the other delicious starters. My main course was nice but the steak tasted like it had been smothered in A1 steak sauce, DH tasted it and he agreed. They also gave us our main courses before we had finished our starter. I know we were there in the middle of free dining but the meal just felt very rushed.

The desert was lovely though and the chocolate cake was light and moist but we had the check almost as soon as we got the desert and we definitely got the impression that they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. Perhaps I was expecting too much from Le Cellier and it didn’t live up to it’s hype. I would go back and give it another try but I don’t think it is the sort of restaurant that we could take DS to.

We were out of there just before 7pm and decided to grab a coffee from Kona before collecting the kids. We caught the Monorail to the TTC and DH and I had a race. He walked and I said I would wait for the resort Monorail and we’d meet in Kona Café with the looser buying the coffee. The monorail came before he even reached the gate at the TTC and I was soon on my way. I made sure to gloat using the walkie talkie as I sailed past him while he was still walking through the grounds of the Polly and I had the coffee ordered and delivered just as he made it to Kona. It was getting close to 8pm so we walked over to the Neverland Club to collect the kids. They had a great time and can’t wait to go again. DS said he played on the PS2 and for his dinner he only ate some corn on the cob as he didn’t like anything else. DD said she did some dressing up in a Cinderella costume and from what I can gather they were the same costumes that they sell in the Disney Shops. She also made a music shaker and she said she ate chicken nuggets and a vanilla pudding from the buffet. There was a girl in there who got chatting to DD and when DD mentioned that she would be back at Christmas the girl said she would be back too and was booked in the Neverland Club on Christmas Day. I though it was a bit sad that she wasn’t spending the whole day with her family.

It was nice going out for dinner on our own but a bit of a schlep to get from the Polly to Le Ceiller. We didn’t know how the kids would be so we felt that we ought to get back. They had a fantastic time so when the kids are back in the Neverland Club at Christmas we have booked Kona Café and will have a good look round the resort and a chill out before collecting them.

We said our good-byes at the Neverland Club and this time we caught the Monorail to MK and from there, the bus to OKW. We waited about 15 minutes for a bus, which is the longest we have waited so far. The kids were tired but DS was hungry so I made him some pasta. We were all in bed and asleep by half 10.

Lovely report, thank you. That day was a special one for me - my son was 18 on the 18th August, he also found out he had got a place at York University which made the day even more special. :)
