Day 20 - Magic Kingdom and Concourse Steak House

I got up this morning just after 7am and caught up on the trip reports and photo’s, DD joined me at around half past. We chatted for a while and she looked at the pins we got yesterday. I made us some breakfast and took a coffee into DH sometime after 8. He and DD chatted for a while then he said he’d go back to sleep for half an hour as there was no sign of DS. DS eventually got up just after 9am so after he had breakfast we woke DH and all got ready to go to the pool. We walked to the little pool close to our room, it was just before 10 and I’d say there were about 4 other families there some with young kids and some with teenagers. DS and DD started to recreate Kilamangaro safari in the sand as they did yesterday but it didn’t go as well today and they started arguing. DS had a full blown meltdown and I had to get him to walk away from the pool area which wasn’t easy as he was shouting and giving out. Everyone was staring at us but what can you do. I got back as far as the seats outside our room and got him to sit down for a while and when he eventually calmed down I tried to talk to him. After a while he was calm enough to go back to the pool and I am sure everyone was delighted to see us return . DD was still playing in the sand but I got DS to come into the pool with me and we played there.

A while later we left the pool area and came back to the room to get ready for MK. We were showered, changed and out the door to the bus stop by half 12 and didn’t have to wait long for a bus. The first thing to do was to get some lunch and the kids wanted to go to Cosmic Rays it was busy but we managed to get a table. DH had the chicken and ribs combo, which he said was nice but awkward to eat at a small table. There was loads of chicken and it would have been more than enough for two to share. DS had - yea you guessed it - chicken strips, while DD had a hot dog and I had a burger. The dining plan lets you get a desert, which in this restaurant was a muffin sized chocolate or carrot cake. DS and DH managed theirs but DD and I & gave ours away to the people on the next table.

Once we were fed and as we were already in tomorrow land it had to be Buzz, DH and DD claimed their guns weren’t working properly and got a pathetic 1,700 and 2,500 (to be fair though, when we rode this later in the evening there was one car which was marked out of order so they might have been right ;) ) DS asked me to do some shooting for him so he managed to get over 300,000 while I got about 150,000. Next up was an old favorite of ours the Transit Authority, we like this and it’s a great way to get a rest in the shade. If you’ve not tried it before you should give it a go. Our last call in Tomorrow Land for now was Space Mountain. I was taking the lads on and once they were in their car I went out the “chicken” exit and was able to wait right where they got off. They loved this ride and want to do it again tonight. Our plan was to make our way to Frontier land so we took the back road outside Space Mountain to the train station at Mickey’s Toon Town Fair. There was a train just arriving and we were able to get on. There seemed to be some Muppet who kept swinging their leg outside the train and the driver had to keep asking them to put it back inside the train - what is it with some people.

Once in Frontier land the guys went off for Splash and Big Thunder while I sat on one of the rocking chairs in the Briar Patch shop and watched the world go by. The lads finished just before the parade was about to start and as it had been rubbish without the snow globes we decided to give it a miss and made it across into the back of Adventure land where we waited for DD to see the Captain Jack show. Not many people seem to know about this yet but it soon draws a crowd once it starts. DD was suitably decked out in her pirates scarf and was one of the 4 children picked.

She was delighted and got to sword flight with Mac.

After that they get most of the kids to come up and swear a pirates oath and then everyone gets a scroll confirming that they are an apprentice pirate and signed by Captain Jack himself. DD was delighted and wants to get her scroll framed when we get home.

We were going to see the Tikki Rooms but a show had just gone in and we didn’t fancy waiting 12 minutes for the start of the next one so the kids asked us to see the Swiss Family Tree House. If you have a few minutes spare it is worth taking the time to do this as you get some good views from the top. We saw someone parasailing at the Contemporary and it looked like he was flying over the castle.

We did a coke and ice-cream stop and made our way through Liberty Square into Fantasy Land. The lines were too long at Haunted Mansion and some of the other rides so we did Philharmagic which we all love. Plus it was nice to sit down in the air conditioning. We were getting hot and tired so after a rest room stop we decided to make our way over to the Contemporary and have a look round before our ADR at the Concourse Steakhouse.

We caught the resort monorail and once at the CR DD got changed into her Jasmine outfit which she had decided to wear to dinner. We went into the shops on the 4th floor and did some pin trading. We also bought some postcards and stamps and posted them at the mail box in the store (after we had written them out, obviously) The area in between the two shops is looking very empty as they have taken all the carts away. This is in preparation of the move of the Food and Fun Centre from downstairs up to this location and the re-location of the Concourse Steak house down to where the FFS was. We were told by a CM that this will start soon and be completed some time next year.

We were about half an hour early for our ADR but decided to check in anyway. They said they could seat us right away or we could wait until 6pm. Guess which one we choose - yep, lead us to the table. It was nice inside with space between the tables. Our server was Jimmy and he was really great and very friendly, he sat down to chat to us and gave us a few pointers on the menu. There were no starters that the kids wanted but we ordered the shrimp cocktail for them which were three large shrimp with a wedge of lemon, a piece of lettuce and a side dressing,

I guess the 70’s style of serving it in a glass smothered in sauce isn’t in anymore then ;) DH had scallops which he said were lovely and I had onion rings which came with 3 different dips. It was too much and I couldn’t finish them. For the main course DS ordered steak from the children’s menu, it came with mash but we asked if we could change that for plain pasta, which they did. DD, ever the culinary master went for a cheese pizza while DH & I opted for the 10oz steak with garlic mash. It was all lovely and we really enjoyed it. DH and DS had diet coke while I had an ice cold glass of while Zinfandel. DD went for some red fizzy concoction that came with a glowing ice cube and a Mickey shaped straw. For our desert DD wanted the painters pallet which looked lovely but didn’t taste of much,

while DS wanted the chocolate cake. It wasn’t on the children’s menu so I ordered it for him and I had Ice-cream and a brownie from the kids menu. DH went for a cheesecake, which he said was lovely. All in all we had a great meal here and will be back at Christmas.

We left the restaurant and decided to get the monorail back to the MK and we were able to ride up front with the driver. We got back to the MK just after 7. We went into Tomorrow Land to ride Buzz again and this time DH & DD’s guns were working but they still didn’t score very well. I “helped” DS again and he scored over 200,000 while I managed over 500,000. After Buzz it was onto Space Mountain where I again took the chicken exit and waited for DS and DD to get off. We took the same train journey to Frontier land so that they could ride Splash and Big Thunder (ever get the feeling of De Ja Vu)

DD & DS rode Big Thunder and said it was great in the dark, DD didn’t want to do splash as she was wearing her Jasmine outfit so DH & DS went and also said it was great in the dark. It was about ten past nine so we went to find a spot for Spectro. We found one half way between Frontier Land and Liberty Square right at the front and got a great view. This parade was a 1000 times better than the afternoon one. It was over at about quarter to 10 so we didn’t have much time until Wishes. We asked a CM where we should go and she said Main Street was the best vantage point but it would be very crowded by now so suggested, the other side of Dumbo in Fantasy Land. This area was quiet and we pulled up a couple of stools and sat down to watch. It was a great place to view, you had some of the bright fireworks going off over the castle and some of the bigger ones going off right behind you, and you really felt like you were in the middle of everythingthing.

Once the fireworks finished we started to make our way out of the park and it wasn’t as bad as I though. We stuck to the sides near the shops and managed to get to our bus stop in about 15 minutes. There wasn’t much of a queue at the OKW stop and we got on the first bus that come along. We were back in our room just after 11pm and once we’d looked at our pins we were all in bed and asleep by midnight. At last we had managed to see some fireworks.
