Day 8 - 9/29
Food and Wine Festival!
Peru
-Arroz con Pato Roast Duck with Cilantro Rice
- Glass of Tacama Gran Tinto
Amazing. I love duck! And while I like red wine, we found that they serve all reds at room temperature, even though it is 90 degrees outside! I know that is how they are supposed to be served, but I stuck mostly to whites because, out in that heat, I like my wine cold regardless of the grape!
Total (for the duck): $3.25
Canada
-Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup
We skipped Le Cellier this trip in an attempt to use all our dining credits at places we've never eaten before, so I had to get the soup! YUM!
Total: $3.00
France
-Quiche au Fromage de Chèvre - Goat Cheese and Sun-dried Tomato Quiche
This was very good! We almost went back for seconds..
Total: $3.75
Austraila
- Grilled Lamb Chop with Caramelized Onions
I thought this was good, but DBF did NOT like the caramelized onions. It was almost like jelly.
Total: $4.75
China
- Chicken Sha Cha with Peanut Sauce
- Pork Pot Stickers
- Glass of Dragon's Hollow Chardonnay
The Chicken was all right, nothing I'd go back for. The pot stickers, however, were wonderful! DBF doesn't really like Chinese food, and even he liked them! The wine was also tasty.
Total (for the food): $7.00
Dinner this night was at
Coral Reef. This was, by far, my least favorite meal of the trip. DBF enjoyed it much more than I did, but this is one of those places that you go to mostly for the atmosphere. And that alone is worth trying it. We arrived about an hour late for our ADR because we were too busy eating around the world, but we were still lucky enough to be seated within 15 minutes AND got right next to the tank! (Actually, we were seated at a table right
next to an open table at the tank, and we asked if we could sit at that one instead, and the server was more than happy to let us.)
Here are some pictures of the restaurant:
A Shark!
A huge fish of some kind.
More big fish.
Now, for the food.
The Bread.
This was good. And the butter didn't come in foil packets... always a plus
My Appetizer:
Mixed Greens Salad with Key Lime herb vinaigrette
After days of eating like a pig, I was in the mood for a good salad. The dressing was different, which I liked, and the apple slices were a nice touch. Overall, it was good.
DBF's Appetizer:
Caesar Salad with shredded parmesan cheese and croutons
A standard Caesar. Nothing special.
My Entree:
King Crab Legs
Ok. I have eaten a lot of crab legs in my day and these were, by far, the VERY worst! Even worse than Red Lobster which, until now, was at the top of the "bad crab legs" list. At least from Red Lobster, you aren't really expecting anything great. I don't know if it is because they cut them in half, so by the time they come out they are already luke warm, or if they were just not very good legs to begin with, but they were fishy and cold. I almost couldn't even eat them. Good thing there were tons of fish in the tank to distract me a little.
DBF's Entree:
Grilled NY Strip Steak - served with potatoes au gratin, and broccolini
He thought this was very good. I tried it, and agreed. Note to Self - When eating with the fish, order the MEAT!
My Dessert:
The Chocolate Wave - with brandied cherries
This was great. It almost tastes like an undercooked brownie. It could have used some vanilla ice cream, like others have mentioned, but I still ate the whole thing.
I had wine with dinner, so I got a cappuccino with dessert as my beverage. This was yummy.
DBF's dessert: Key Lime Tart
He liked this. He's not a big chocolate guy, so he didn't get the chocolate wave, despite my nagging that it was supposed to be amazing. Though, I think after trying mine, he secretly regretted not getting it.
Total: $119.30
So, we will probably not be back to Coral Reef. Everything was pretty average except the crab legs, which were gross. We are glad that we tried it though. Oh yea, and there was a wedding proposal while we ate! A diver swam down with a "will you marry me sign" and the whole place went nuts! She said yes, of coarse. It was a great way to propose..
Next up: Lots more F&WF and Spoodles!
