Tink’s 1st Birthday in WDW a Craftdown

Yep that’s right a craftdown!! Cause we have to pass the time somehow!!!

Ok well I will start by introducing the cast of characters!

Me: Hi I will first say that I have been a long time lurker of your fab board. I have been a Disney nut my whole life but I lack park experience! I hadn’t had a trip to the World until I went for a day on my honeymoon (a wonderful night in the Swan at the end of our Florida/Bahammas Vacation). I have been once since, to take my then 18 mth old son! I am a work at home mom that has my own homemade bath product biz, so yes I am naturally a crafty/creative person so this pre-trip report was perfect for me! My favourite Disney things are: Tinkerbell anything, Beauty and the Beast, Being at the world and well everything I shouldn’t even make a list. Oh and we are from ON Canada!

My DH: Not the Disney freak that his wife is, but he knows enough that he shouldn’t fight the calling of the world. He even planned the honeymoon trip as a surprise for me! He understands the Disney obsession, and is slowly catching it by watching it grow in his kids. Oh and I should also mention that this trip is to celebrate two things, one of which is our 5 wedding anniversary.

DS: Captain Hook! Our almost 4 year old is estactic to be going back to Mickey’s House to see pirates, McQueen (he has a CRAZY McQueen room.. we are talking 3 McQueen red walls and then the other wall is a racing flag of 1 foot squares in black and white), the playhouse Disney gang, and hopefully a Wallie sighting.

DD: The other celebration of the trip. Our DD Belle (yes that’s her real name.. and yes she is named after a certin ‘Tinker’ Fairy.), will be turning one in the Magic Kingdom with all her fairy and princess friends!!!

CC: Our family friend “Aunt CC” will be celebrating her first trip to the world. I am so excited to be going with her because its fun to see all the things she is shocked by! CC is also a hugely crafty person who also has her own crafty biz selling handmade jewellery. Again making the craftdown a natural thing.

LR: “Aunt CC’s” Hubby.. also a Disney Newbie. But its totally looking forward to it and golfing!

On the trip will also be My MIL and FIL!

We are traveling by van (well everyone minus my wonderful in Laws, you will see they are great and I Love them so much) and setting off to stay at an off site resort, Silver Lake Resort, in the end of April.

Ok so what is up with the craft countdown… well you see I am a very crafty person and in order to pass the time, and to make this trip extra special we have come up with several crafts to do to take/wear/etc on our trip. Here is a run down of some of the ideas… I am sure some will pop up though along our journey.

-Some Minnie and Princess Ribbon Sculpted Hair clippies.
-A crafty trade of products for a Tinkerbell Poppet
-Resin Pins, necklaces and clippies
-Custom Shirts for a Pirate Princess, A Fairy’s Mother and A wee “Tinker” Belle
-Brainstorming of something super special for a certain pirate (ideas WELCOME PLEASE!! lol)

Ok so that’s it for now.. I will update in a bit with some cast pictures! Thanks for reading and I hope to inspire some craftyness in you all as you have been such a help/inspiration to me!!!

Sounds good so far!! You are going to have a great time, and you're right, crafting does help to pass the time!!

One thing I've made for myself the last trip (I will post pics if I can figure out how) is a small journal / organizer for myself. I happen to have a very common first and last name (think Jane Smith, but it's not that ) and so I always travel with all of my confirmation numbers for flights, hotels and ADRs. This last trip, in June 08, I made a travel journal so I could keep track of all of those in a cute and fun way. I just got a small notebook from the craft store (one with a harder cardboard cover) and decorated it with stickers and ribbon, and voila!

Ok and let the craftiness begin… First in my adventure of DIY Disney trip goodies was hair clippies for my little girl. Now you can find clippies and such in just about any store but I wanted to make my own.. I had already done lots of Googleing on how to make these clippies and already had (somewhat) the right colours so I set to work.

After an afternoon this is what I had:

I also made a Cinderella and a few other princesses but they went to live in other castles before I got pics, one slow afternoon (OK well as slow as it can get with two kids a dog, a DH and my biz lol) I will get working on some more!

I made a bunch of extra Minnie’s with the idea of taking them to the park and handing them out to some special little girls we are sure to encounter.. DH thinks that’s silly and that no one will take them lol.. Then brought up the whole law in the US about the no reselling of clothing or homemade items to young children.. hum.. would I get in trouble for giving out clippies made of ribbon? I thought it would be fun and sort of like a substitute for loot bags since we are having Miss. Belle’s birthday in MK. AH well what do you think about it?

I sure hope that DD Hair grows slightly so that she can wear the clippes with out loosing them.. here is an action shot of her wearing her Minnie clip before loosing it at Boston Pizza lol! Good thing I had spares!!

I still have some others on my to-do list too mainly some Pirate ones for CC! I also made a bunch of just cute little bow ones that can be worn daily .. I must say that clippies are addictive!!
