I will be staying at the Movie Resort for my vacation and the rooms don't have coffee makers so I was wondering, for those of you who have brought a coffee maker on the plane, how did you pack it? Did you bring it carry-on? or package it separately?
Thanks so much! I can't believe I'll be there in 11 days!!

If you are using Disney Express, I can maybe understand wanting to pack one. If you are renting a car, stop at Target or WalMart when you get there and pick one up for $15 or less - just pack the can of Timmies then.

IMO, not worth the hassle to pack one, especially if the carafe is glass. If you must pack one, pick up one with an all metal carafe here in Canada. I'd pack it in checked baggage - can't imagine explaining it to the security guys!

A little off topic but I thought I'd throw in some wisdom. I always pack caffeine pills when I go to WDW. Coffee is hard to find, expensive and weak. I don't want my day ruined by a caffeine withdrawal headache. I haven't found anything in the world that's anywhere near as strong as Timmies, and if that's what you are used to, then you better bring some pills.

I've never considered bringing my own coffee maker ... interesting idea!

My coping strategy ... since the coffee there is so bad :coffee:

Energy drinks
Mix nescafe with Hot Chocolate
Cafe Latte (best value for this ... Norwegian Pavilion)

:jumping2:

I've heard of a few good coffee spots - at the Norway Pav., the Polynesian, Ghiradelli's in Downtown Disney, and I think there is one in Animal Kingdom, but dragging my kids all over the World to get coffee in the morning would just be insane:surfweb:...or would it?!:lmao:
I think I'm going to have to start weaning myself off of Timmies so I won't end up with caffeine headaches...oh why oh why isn't there a :worship:Timmies in Disney??

There is a coffee stand at AK before you go through the turnstiles. Serves some really nice strong African brew. Not the same as Timmies - I'm not a Timmies fan (can I say that without having my passport revoked?) - but stands up to a good Starbucks.

My favorite stop while waiting for the rope drop.

DH loves the Kona coffee in the pressed pot at the Polynesian Kona Cafe (or you can also get the Kona Blend at the Kona Island Cafe Coffee Bar - along with Espresso, Cappuccino, Cafe Latte, Cafe Mocha and Kafe Au Lait) :thumbsup2

I'm with you....I love Timmies but don't drink coffee, only tea so mine is totally portable. My only problem is that often I have to buy a whole carton of milk for my tea. They never have milk...only cream to put in it.

Anyway, I would totally pack a coffee maker if you need one. Find the cheapest one you can get. Often you can find those little 4 cuppers for around $10-$12. That way you can leave it there when you head home. As to packing it I would pack it in the box that you buy it in but open it up and bubble wrap the glass carafe. This will also give you a nice bit of extra space in the suitcase for the trip home. I guess you could also carry it on...those 4 cup pots are pretty small.

Another option would be to start now trying out some instant to find one that you can live with for the vacation. My DH prefers to have instant than the Nescrape. There are now Tasters Choice single serve packs and I hear a lot of good things about the Starbucks instant.

Not sure how they taste as we haven't tried them, but Starbucks now offers an instant coffee called VIA Ready Brew ...

Via is great - I keep a stash at the office for emergencies when I can't go to the real Starbucks. Has real "microground" coffee beans in it. Sounds a bit icky but tastes great! Of course both Vistana resorts have a REAL starbucks in the resort, so I haven't bothered bringing down; but taking it to the park for the mid-afternoon withdrawal time sounds like a FABULOUS idea! Thanks!

I've taken my coffee presse and kettle. I just wrapped them up with some thick clothes and also put dishclothes inside the press and packed it in my checked luggage. It has come out fine a few trips now.

I pack a small immersion heater, and a metal lined travel mug. Makes boiling water in minutes in the room. I believe it cost around $6.00.

We make instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate no problem.

I used to pack a kettle but prefer my immersion heater.

and I am a Timmies's addict! I brought individual packets of Timmies and just used the in-room coffee pot. It worked well enough-definitely not the same but better than the stuff they call coffee.Good luck!

Unfortunately the value resorts don't have in-room coffee makers ... :sad2:

I think you coffee "addicts" should petition the Canadian pavilion in Epcot to have a Tim Hortons coffee station. That is as Canadian as lumberjacks, I'm sure.

Seriously - they have maple syrup, Mounties, Le Cellier (the Keg), Inuit art, where the heck is my freakin' Timmies, eh? I need a coffee:surfweb:

What about a one cup coffee maker?

You dont need to pack a coffee pot or a carafe. It just brews into your mug. YOu can't use your refillable mug, just a regular 8 oz size mug. but solves the problem of transporting glass in your suitcase.

I don't even need filters in my cofee maker. it is a permanent filter that is removable and washable. It's very small as well.

Brews a cup in sixty seconds. :goodvibes
