Timing of transfers for May 2024 trip (with a June UY from April UY)

Hi,
I want to make sure I time my transfer properly. I have 30 points (2023/April UY/AKL) I want to transfer into my other account (June UY/BRV) for use in May 2024. From reading the boards, I think I could transfer the points first and then bank them for use in 2024. If I did that now- would it count as the one allowed transfer for 2023? I'm also thinking of transferring points from another account and was hoping to be able to do that sometime between June 1-Oct 1 so it would count as the allowed transfer for 2024.

I will only be booking at the 7 month window so hoping to use all the points to make one reservation (rather than having to make two separate reservations with my 2 accounts). I enjoy split stays and we often booked a couple of studios so it was never a problem using the two accounts. We just want to get a larger room (need ALL the points) and want to avoid the two check in dates that messes with dining plans, etc.

Thanks for any insight or a better plan?

Jen

You can transfer your April 2023 points into your June 2023 use year, and then you can bank those transferred points. Those April points retain their own use year and thus need to be banked after the transfer into the 2024 use year before making the May 2024 reservation. You could actually do the transfer and banking now or any time between now and shortly before the time in October when you intend to make the reservation for May 2024.

Note, if you are intending to stay at BRV (your June use year) in one room, you should consider using those June points to reserve as much of the beginning portion of your intended trip that you can book at 11-months out. That will creat a somewhat better chance for availability for getting what you want at 7-months out via doing a modification that adds nights using the AKV points.

Also, be aware that DVC has generally treated transfers made by one member between two use years of that member different from other transfers. The usual transfer rule is one per use year (in or out), but for those just transferring between their own use years, DVC generally allows that to be done more than once per use year.

Thank you. I may book a 2-bed at BRV at 11 months. We're hoping for a 3 bedroom and my family doesn't want AKL, otherwise I'd transfer the other way.

Question: My accounts are deeded differently...family account with my siblings and one is just mine. Do you think DVC would be flexible and allow multiple transfers in that situation?

Thanks again.

I have one membership that is my DH and the kids and the other two are just DH and me.

And they have allowed me to transfer that way since I am an owner on both without it being a one and only.

As noted, as long as you are a member on both use years and the one making the request, DVC is likely to allow more than one transfer. Just be aware that there was never a formal exception created from the one limit rule for transfers between memberships owned by the same person. It is just a practice that has existed for many years, and there is always the risk that DVC might switch positions and start enforcing the one transfer rule for everyone.

As to a GV, you do not mention exactly when in May, but generally for GV's during May at 7-months out, SSR, Kidani and Riviera are usually open, BLT, Jambo, and CCV are a 50/50 chance, VGF and OKW (has many GVs but few can resist the low point cost for them) are unlikely since they usually are missing two or more random days a week, and BWV has little chance.
