Just got some great news and had to share
As many of you know, my DH has been fighting hairy-cell Leukemia for about the past 2 years now. Finally this past February the symtoms of the illness + the side effects from the treatments got to be too much for his body and he had to go on disability. He was approved for SSI and Social Security Disability, but he didnt get his first SSI check until May and it was only a bit over $600. He wont get SSD until September.
Slowly but surely, we've been falling further and further behind on bills.
Now for some backstory.
My DH's mother died when he was very young (I think 6 or 7). He also has a half-brother named Barry who was put up for adoption and he hasn't seen since. He didn't know it, but his mother had also given birth to a little girl who was put up for adoption right away.
A while back, she managed to find him via a PI, and tried to get in touch with him. Having just been diagnosed, and having very bad childhood experiences with what little family has, he didnt want to talk to her at the time.
Well in the past few months, he's gotten back in contact with her via Facebook and over the phone. They've still never met, but they talk all the time.
Friday, the backbills finally reached a point where we got an eviction notice from our community (we are buying a manufactured home and fell behind on lot rent). Our landlord was working with us, but it was still a lot of stress. DH had mentioned this to his sister, and she called today and paid our backrent, as well as July for us!
Also, a fellow DISer was kind enough to give us some of her DVC points that were going to expire in the form of one night in a Studio at AKL! She didnt realize it until she reads this, but my DH and I celebrate our 8th anniversary on the 17th, so our stay on the 22nd is an amazing anniversary present!
