Well……… we did it!!!!!!!! After years and years of traveling with your two young kids to Disney (Luke and Lauren ) who many of you have watched grow up right before your eyes here on the Dis through our trip reports ……….Tim and I FINALLY made a trek to the World without kids in tow. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my kids and there were times of course where they were missed but we REALLY enjoyed our trip and I can’t wait to share it with you…………….. so what are we waiting for………..let’s dive right in SHALL WE!?!
Our flight was leaving on Thursday morning out of Columbus (about a 2 hour drive from our house) We decided it would be easier to get a hotel in Columbus at the airport, so we got one of those deals where we left the car at the hotel and the price for the hotel and parking were included- SCORE!
On Wednesday night Tim’s mom came over, we had dinner together and said our good bye’s to the kids. I was really worried there would be tears and I would have a hard time leaving but it went GREAT, Lauren even said (bless her heart) “HAVE A GREAT TIME IN DISNEY MOMMY!!!” God love my kids!
So we enjoyed our evening in our hotel in Columbus and the next morning it was time to HEAD TO DISNEY!!!!
Self portrait of us in the room before we left Thurs. morning:

We made it to the airport with no problem, it was a sunny day, perfect for travel. Our plane arrived on time.
002.jpg

Before we boarded the kids called us as they were getting on the school bus –it was nice to hear their voices and once again they seemed fine, GREAT, let’s GO!!!!
It’s funny, as I’m sure it is for many of you who go to Disney as often as we do, the Orlando airport just seems like a home away from home to us. We were just a little excited as we headed down the elevator to get on Magical Express:
001.jpg

The mood was dampened a bit when we saw the line for Magical Express:
004.jpg

Oh well, we were HERE and we were ACTUALLY DOING THIS and we were headed to the BOARDWALK resort for the first time……….life was good:
005.jpg

We boarded the bus shortly actually, luckily that line moved quickly:
023.jpg

We were the third stop so that took awhile, we jumped off the bus and were so excited to see if our room was ready at the Boardwalk:
024.jpg

025.jpg

We went up to the counter and our room WAS READY!!! WOO HOO!!!! We headed up to our room quickly to put our stuff down and head to Epcot to meet up with Bryan and Diane.
Our room:
026.jpg

Thought this was cute, we’ve never gotten a Minnie before : )
027.jpg

We threw our stuff down and quickly explored the room.
The view from our balcony (cool you can see Tower of Terror in the background):

Happy Lesley on the balcony:

Then we headed to Epcot . Let me just say that this location at Boardwalk ROCKS! Being able to walk to our favorite park was just amazing, we LOVED it! Before we knew it we were hugging Diane and Bryan hello at the International Gateway entrance and we immediately headed off to France to buy some Grey Goose Vodka Slushies to kick the trip off right!

I didn’t take pictures of the food we ate but we ate and drank our way around the World Showcase for about an hour. This served as our late lunch this day and we ate and drank it UP! I got several wine samples and Tim got several beer samples as we strolled.
034.jpg

039.jpg

My favorite was the lamb and potatoes from Austria and the tomato/onion/bluecheese salad they had in America, YUM YUM YUM!
I was excited to see Christmas decorations in Disney for the first time, they were beautiful!
033.jpg

When we got to Germany we wanted to check out the new caramel store and it did NOT disappoint!
035.jpg

The small bag of caramel corn was only 2.50 and it was some of the best caramel corn I’ve ever had!
Tim and Bryan and Diane fell in love with the caramel pecan bar (I had a bite and it was tasty!)
We continued our way around the world, we stopped in almost every country for something. Diane and I tried the burnt Cherry colada’s and they were just o.k.:

Another pretty tree:

When we had our full of food and drink we headed into Future World, I wanted to stop and take a pic of us in front of the Food and Wine logo’s first though:
041.jpg

I really wanted to see Captain Eo since it opened a week after we left this summer, so we headed over there:

Continued in the next post

It wasn’t crowded AT ALL:
043.jpg

I enjoyed the show. We discussed later that if Michael would have stayed just the way he was there, in his prime, he would have been GREAT, he looked so good back then- healthy/normal, etc. Oh well, it was entertaining (to me anyway, Tim fell asleep he said that the beers settled in and the comfy chair in a dark room was just too much : )
After that we noticed we missed a call for the kids, so we took a break to call home:
044.jpg

The kids were fine. I was surprised at each call how Diane and Bryan’s boys would always ask what they were doing, etc. – our kids never asked and I was fine with that since they would just get upset if they knew. They were doing great and were happy, so we were happy and continued with the great day.
We stopped in MouseGears to check out the Christmas stuff:

047.jpg

Then we decided to give the single rider line at Test Track a try:
048.jpg

It’s funny to me how many times the CM’s feel they have to tell you “you are in the single rider line, you will NOT be able to ride together, your party will be split up” DUH, that’s why it’s called the SINGLE rider line. Anyway, our group was separated but we had a great time. I loved my ride, that’s for sure!
049.jpg

HANDS UP!
050.jpg

That line went so fast (total time of line and ride less than 10 minutes) we decided to go for ride number 2:
051.jpg

This time we lucked out and look who I got in my car:
052.jpg

Another great ride. Diane and Bryan had gotten us fast passes for Soarin’ earlier in the day (they arrived several hours before us) so we went over there to use those before our dinner reservation.
053.jpg

Well……… the fast pass line was really long and was going VERY slow so we bailed and had to head to Japan for dinner . Our feet were sore from walking around the world (and I was wearing new Crocs that were rubbing my feet raw which is surprising because I’ve never had Crocs do that before) So we took the boat over to the World Showcase:
057.jpg

It was such a beautiful night, we sat on the back of the boat. We were just soaking in the warm Florida air, it was a nice ride:
We were about 30 minutes late for our ressie so they gave us a pager that they said worked in all of Japan, so we took some time to shop around. Then we were seated and drinks were quickly ordered. Diane and I ordered (in my opinion the BEST drink on property) a Tokyo Sunset:
061.jpg

YUM!
The guys ordered Japanese beers:
062.jpg

Before we knew it our glasses were empty:
063.jpg

Time for refills!!!!!
064.jpg

The family we were sat with were STRANGE! They never spoke to eachother and they had dietary requests that confused our cook. The one lady had a shrimp allergy so they cooked her food in back (no big deal) but the other lady said she had no dietary needs but then as our chef came out she told her she can’t have any salt on any of her food, so that confused our chef since that effected everyone elses food. It all worked out and we had a GREAT meal. I ordered a salad with the ginger dressing which was outstanding! I had the steak and shrimp, Tim had the steak and chicken and it was outstanding. Our bill for dinner with the apps, drinks, and meal was over 120!!!! YIKES! But it was well worth it, great meal, great memories.
After dinner we decided to head back to the room. We enjoyed the nice stroll back to our room, just love that Boardwalk area.
I took these pics of the room (it was a studio):
065.jpg

066.jpg

067.jpg

068.jpg

It was a pretty room…….. and you know what made it even better, it was OURS, just Tim and I, alone in Disney…………… HEAVENLY!!!!!!!!!!!! It truly was like a second honeymoon. I decided I wanted some hot chocolate, so I took our mugs down to the Boardwalk Bakery, it was a really short walk from the room. What I thought was crazy was that they don’t fill up your mugs, you show them the mugs and they fill up cups and give you those. So, since I was also buying breakfast for us to eat in the room the next day it made it a tricky walk back to the room.
As I was walking back up to the room I was filled with happy thoughts and I came in and I said to Tim, “you know, with DVC, and coming as often as we do, this truly does feel like home to me” and it does. Being a DVC member is so awesome, I love how we can just come back “home” often and how we settle right into our fun routines and still experience new things each and every trip. It’s just a great warm and fuzzy feeling.
What a great first day/night of the trip, we were having such a good time and couldn’t believe we still had two more FULL days to go!

So glad you've started the TR!!

We've got our first no kids trip planned for January. I know I'm gonna experience some of the same momma guilt/apprehension as well but reading your TR is just gonna reaffirm what a great thing a no kids trip can be!

Can't wait for the next update!!

:goodvibes

Glad to get into another TR.

I'm not judging...just jealous. I can't wait for my wife and I to do just what you did.

BTW, our last trip we too stayed at the Boardwalk. In your pic on the balcony, our room is in the background. Top floor, 3 window in from the left.

My son absolutely loved the BW, cause it was a 10 Friendship ride to HS and at extra magic hours you could ride TSM again and again and again and.......you get the picture.

Thanks for sharing.
