Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

FYI You can also get small bottles of Synthropol on Amazon.

Any idea where to get it in a B&M store? I have a batch that I'm dying this afternoon, so I'll need to wash them tomorrow night, and even Amazon Prime won't get it to me in time. :(

Okay, this one is NOT a Mickey head, but it's Disney tie dye. I don't have a picture of the whole shirt, just the design I stenciled on.

Diluting the dyes did make them lighter, btw, thanks for the tip. :)

How did you do the stenciling part? make your own stencils? what kind of paint? and the process of painting? I am going on the wonder in August and would like to stencil a design on the back of the shirts.

Thanks

I have done regular tie-dye many times in the past but dont' have time for trip in three weeks and just stumbled on this today on pinterest. Anyone have any suggestions on how to modify this to get a mickey head on it? I love the idea and the way it looks at end, but I would want me a mickey on there!

Thanks for any suggestions

You could draw the Mickey head on with glue and then dye it. Washing it removes the glue and leaves a white outline.

Yippee! The 3 shirts and the pair of socks came out awesome. I think I now have the tye dye bug...can't wait to do more!:yay:

Well, I'm dying to see pics of yours... I bought the exact same kit and we are hoping to do ours this evening!! I really really want them to turn out nicely!!!

Have you seen the bleaced out shirts? It works best with a black tee. You scrunch it up and spray it with bleach. We made one the other day and cut a mickey head from a piece of foam. It left a black mickey head and the rest of the shirt where we sprayed with bleach turned a reddish brown. They came out really pretty.

Hey, guys. I have a question for you. Where on earth do you get bottles for tie dyeing? I have a few that came with a kit, but I don't want to have to buy more kits to get the bottles. I have been to Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and Lowes to try for bottles. Everyone knows what I'm talking about but no one knows where to get them. Any help would be appreciated. :grouphug:

You can order them online from Dharma, but have you tried cooking stores? It's the same sort of bottle that cooks use for liquid garnishing, sauces, etc. You could even use the old-fashioned ketchup & mustard bottles, but they're opaque and you wouldn't be able to see how much liquid is inside.

I am a cosmetologist so naturally I went to Sallys Beauty supply for "color bottles" around a buck each!:thumbsup2

Thanks ladies. Oh, and I am currently using the old condiment bottles, but I have to use plumber's tape around the threads to keep them from leaking. A lot.

I have used the bottles you buy from Dharma and I also have used the ones I purchased in AC Moore that are from Wilton and used for candy making.
Condiment bottles are good too!! Whatever works!!

I just finished mine today! :) So pumped with the results! Dd and I cannot wait to sport them in August! :) Thank you all for the clear, easy to follow directions. We may need to make more!

These shirts are lovely! I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can try it sometime:) Thank you!

I bought supplies to make these shirts 3 years ago but never got the nerve to try it. Now we are preparing for a trip in October and I REALLY want to make these for my family!

My biggest concern is trying to figure out what colors to use. I have some RIT dye I bought 3 years ago but the colors really don't coordinate. I want to use red but I'm afraid it will turn out pink, DH would NEVER wear that!

Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes. Worst case scenario we all get new nightshirts! :rotfl2:

These look awesome! Great job! We tried to do these shirts last week and it was a complete failure. We ended up with a big blob. The mickey head was not defined at all. Wonder what we did wrong. I want to try again but afraid I will end up with the same results.

We're going to dye some shirts on Sunday! However we decided not to try the mickey heads. We're just going to tie dye the shirts and see how they come out. If we're happy with the results, my mother-in-law is going to applique mickey heads onto the shirts for us! The nice thing is that by doing it that way it gives my mother in law an opportunity to participate in our planning a bit more. Wish us luck!
Thanks for all the tips on this page! I never would have had the courage to even tie dye if it hadn't been for all this information!

What's everyone's favorite rinsing method? I feel like I'm wasting a ton of water when I rinse them at the sink, but I'm afraid to not rinse them so thoroughly. Plus it kills my back if I'm doing a big batch. On an adult shirt, I probably spend about 10 minutes rinsing and wringing them out under running water. Then I wash them in the washing machine (with synthrapol now!).

Any more efficient, less wasteful ways of rinsing?
