So we are heading down to the mouse come August with two days hopper non expiring tickets on our magic bands. We really dont want to use them this time around as we dont want to hop. We are going to add a 7 day basic no hopper ticket to the band but heres the question... how do you manage to use a normal ticket and not the hopper? We are scared when we scan the band to get in the park it will use one of our precious non expiring hopper days we want to keep for later in the year. I hope this question makes sense. Thanks so much in advance.

Some people recommend NOT linking the new tickets to MDE and just scanning the tickets themselves at park entry & FP+ entrances. It's also possible to link them but then go to GR BEFORE you enter your first park and have them prioritize the tickets so the new ones are used before the old ones.

You can add on "new" names to your MDE account and link the new tickets there. Make FPs for the new people and enter the park and FP lines with the new tickets.

If you will book an onsite stay, use the "new" names on the reservation so that the new people receive the new set of MagicBands. Then you'll have new MagicBands that link in MDE to your new tickets. Old MagicBands will provide the link to your NE hopper tickets.

MagicBands provide the link to your data in MDE. There is nothing stored on the band.

I had a problem in September with the ticket readers scanning a non-expiring park hopper, but taking the days off a 5-day MYW ticket that was at home! Both tickets were registered on My Disney Expetience, and I didn't know it would take the days off the one that was registered first. I found out only when I wanted to book Fastpasses for my December trip, and my 5-day ticket had expired! Disney made it right, but I would've been really peeved if I didn't know my 5-day ticket was expired until I got there in December.

sorry...duplicate post

But as long as I'm here...there's definitely a flaw in the system. I scanned actual non-expiring park hopper tickets in September, because I didn't have a Magic Band, and the system took the days off a different ticket.

OMG Im scared to death losing these 2 day NE hoppers.. its so confusing!

If you have new/nicknamed people in your MDE with the new tickets linked to them, there is no way your NE tickets can be used. The system is set up so that you can manipulate it and protect your own tickets without standing in line at Guest Relations and hoping someone there does everything correctly.

I'm trying to do somewhat of the same thing I have 4 day hopper Military tickets that expire and I need to add on 10 day non expiring reg tickets to my acct because we will be at Disney for 7 days so my question is this how do I come up with or add a new/nicknamed people in MDE and have the bands be able to read the information?
I did ask how I could do this and I was told I would need to call Disney ahead of time and have them prioritize the tickets...

If you plan to use a combination of the two tickets to equal 7 days of park entrances and you want the MagicBand to link to both tickets and all FPs, you won't be able to add on new names and link the tickets to the new people.

Adding "new" people in your MDE Family and Friends list works best when you want to safely save tickets for another trip. By having the tickets linked to people who don't have MagicBands, it ensures that they won't be used. In your case, if you are using a combo of tickets, you'll need to have Guest Relations or your Concierge attempt to prioritize them for usage.

Thanks, I think I understand and know what I will need to do when I get to my resort....

Just scan the actual ticket when you enter the park, not your magic band. A very simple way to make sure the correct ticket is used for admittance and you don't have to wait in the guest services line to get your tickets prioritized.

If you do this, do you still have to use your ticket for Fastpass or can you use your Magic Band for Fastpass?

What does the active and inactive do? Anything?
Curious about this too. My daughter was supposed to join me but now is not; both our tickets were listed under Magic Bands and Cards in MDE. I simply inactivated all her bands and a ticket assuming I can save it for a later date.

Because she isn't going to the parks, there is no reason to deactivate anything. The data remains in your MDE account, unused and ready for any future trip.

That didn't work for me! I didn't have a Magic Band, and I scanned the ticket I intended to use. The system still deducted the days from a different registered ticket that was at home. I had even exchanged a paper ticket from 2009 to a plastic one when I arrived at WDW, so I would be able to scan it at the park gates.
