Ticket upgrade question

Hello All,

I want to make sure I understand upgrading undercovertourist tickets at the WDW gates.....

Planning a trip with my wife to celebrate our 20th! If I buy a 4 day base ticket thru Undercovertourist and then we decide after we get there that we really do want the hopper option, then I can upgrade...correct?

The strategy is to enter the park, use the ticket, then upgrade so that the ticket will fully price-bridge and we will get credit for the full gate value...correct?

Does it matter if we decide to upgrade on day 2 or 3 vs day 1?? (Other than we won't get to park hop until we upgrade obviously).

Last week, I literally walked in the front gates of DHS - turned left, exited and went to the guest relations to the right (less of a line then inside DHS) I upgraded to an Annual Pass and purchased TIW.

I am planning a surprise trip for our 20th anny! We spent our honeymoon at the World and we are going just the two of us...we have 4 teenagers. My wife is also a huge HP fan and we have never been to Universal, so I am trying to find a way to pinch every penny and do both!! I promised her the next time we go to Orlando we would go to Universal, so she can see the HP stuff. But, that means starting out with base tickets...thinking with the Fp+ system we might not hop as much and can save enough to justify hitting both places (Uni & WDW -- I simply CANNOT fathom going to Orlando and not going to the Mouse's House!).

So, thank you all again for your help....part of my gift to her will include all of the planning being complete and so all she has to do enjoy her wish of going to Universal and then when she thinks we are just going to spend a couple days hanging out and then go home... I am going to spring on her that we are going to WDW for 4 days and all plans are set...ADRs, FPs, which day at each park, etc.!!
