We are financially strapped,so when someone offered their annual pass,we jumped//my question is,do the finger scans work on the passes?or just the magic your way? thanks

You are asked to show picture ID whenever the finger scanners cannot verify your identity.

Give this one up... Annual passes are coded to the person when they are activated. They put your name on them... The name on the ID has to match (and you have to match the ID, so unless you and your cousin are identical your next idea of borrowing his/her ID won't work either and could get you arrested. If I was a CM and you showed up with an AP that wasn't yours and the persons ID, I would call security assuming you had stolen their wallet)

If you do not pass the finger scan you generally will be asked to show a photo ID. On an AP the name is printed on the pass. If you are using a borrowed pass the following can or will happen.

1. The pass will be confiscated.
2. You may be escorted off property; if you are staying at a Disney resort you will lose your room payment.
3. If you are using the pass with permission of the person owned it can be revoked and voided, so the owner can not get another AP.
4. If you cannot show you are using the pass with the permission of the owner you are subject to criminal action.

I use an ECV and don't do a finger scan, about 3/4 of the time I go into the parks I am asked for a picture ID.

As the others said, the AP has the name of the person it was issued to and if you do a finger scan, it won't match the scan that is "coded" to that AP. If you can't produce ID that matches the name on the AP, the AP can be confiscated and you can be arrested.
So, not a good way to save money.
