Hi guys:
I had a newbie thread earlier. Thanks to all that helped. I started to poke around and only could book for 1.5 days for food. I have looked around my resort and pak for the day for availabilities, they were all unavailable. People who don't book 6 mos in advance just don't eat?

Up until the day that you leave, keep checking the online res sites. People keep adding and dropping all the time. Plus, there are other factors that you can use to find reservations. Adjust the times, the restaurants, or # of people (you could break up your group and re-meet after the meal).

I'm sure those aren't the answers that you were looking for or wanted to hear, but that's what I did and got character meals (Tusker House, Akershus, Crystal Palace) and reservations at some of the more in demand restaurants (Le Cellier and Tutto Italia) 1-3 weeks before I left.

I just searched 8/27 @ 5:30 (party of 4) and got 54 hits both in and out of the parks. (50 hits for the same search on 8/29)

Do a broader search (date, party size, aprox time, no location). If you are in MK or Epcot you can always eat dinner at a monorail resort.

Yes, you may have to try choosing earlier or later times than you would prefer in order to get a ressie. I learned something last year that might help. If you have to eat earlier or later to get a ressie, go earlier. Last year we had a 9:15 ressie at Le Cellier. Me and DH each ordered the filet mignon. Well, we were served NY strip steaks. The server did not say anything, just put the plates down in front of us and left. He must have heard me commenting to my DH that it was not filet mignon because when the check came we were not charged for our appetizers. The server did not say, 'we're not charging you for your appetizers', he just omited them from the bill and DH and I both feel it was because they knew we were not served what we were ordered, most likely because we got one of the last seatings of the day and they probably were out of the filet mignon.

I would have said "Hey, I ordered filet mignon and this isn't filet mignon." Then they could explain themselves. If they did it because they were out of filet there isn't any excuse for saying up front "We're out of filet," no matter how late it is.

It certainly helps to do a broad search of times to get more options. And keep checking back. Went last September and couldn't get Le Cellier (even well in advance) but was thrilled to get our favorite Tusker House Character Breakfast only 8 days before we left. Shuffled around my other reservations.

Had a friend who went in March and was able to get Le Cellier for 4 out of 7 nights. You never know. (Of course she also re-shuffled her reservations.)

Also, where are you staying? Some of our best last minute dinners were at out hotels restaurant POR, and those reservations are much easier to get.

Bottom line....keep checking!

Good Luck!

Are you only looking for specific restaurants? I also did a search, and for each day you are there, I have come up with at least 50 different options. If you are only wanting specific restaurants, all I can tell you is to keep searching online anytime you have a chance, and hopefully something will open up.

Yes keep checking! :surfweb:

A couple weeks ago we (2ppl) decided to make a short trip at the end of September. By checking a couple times a day I found pretty much everything we wanted. THEN 2 friends want to join us! Sooo cancel them all and start over for 4ppl.:rotfl2:

So far I have gotten Akershus(breakfast), Garden Grill(Dinner) and LeCellier(lunch).

Good luck:goodvibes

Yes, keep checking! :thumbsup2

We are leaving in less than two weeks and I was able to get a reservation at 'Ohana for 7/31 at 5:15 pm just last week.

We have QS Free Dining for our trip but I really wanted to have 1 special Table Service Meal (paying OOP). I couldn't believe that I got 'Ohana!:banana: I 've tried to get a reservation during our last two trips - 180 days out and was not able to get one. (This was before the on-line reservations were available.)

With On-line reservations, it's super easy to just check whenever you have a few minutes and who knows -- maybe exactly what you want will come up! :wizard:

As mentioned, there are still plenty of places even near the parks that have times available. The ultra-populars will have likely been scooped up months ago, but that doesn't mean there's nowhere to go.

A few tricks:
- Don't input a restaurant name. This will keep things open to see what is available.
- Don't use the "meal" selections for the time, use a time close to when you'd like to eat. Often times, those meal selections are a bit weird and don't show everything.
- If looking for a specific place, keep trying. Often times there are openings that will come up when you least expect them. The online system makes it relatively easy (as long as you don't use Firefox for now :() to check them several times a day.

The loss of the date range option on this system hurts things a bit (before you could search for a specific restaurant at a general time over the span of up to 5 days), but just keep at it. It'll all work out in the end :).

Also, if you're an odd number group (don't remember your party size), check for reservations for +1. The system historically has had issues with odd numbers. Note: due to credit card requirements, do NOT do this for CRT, any of the dinner shows, Akershus, or California Grill! If the reservation asks for your CC info, it's going to be either prepaid or a hold and you can (and often will) be charged even if part of your party shows up!

You are right! I kept checking back and some came back available. What am I going to do without you guys?

OP,If there is someplace you can't get before leaving home check when you get to WDW. I had tried up to a couple of days before leaving home in 2009 to get lunch ADRs at Rose & Crown and had no luck.
My DH suggested to me to ask at the Guest Service desk at POFQ on our 2nd day.
They had 2 options for me to choose from:yay:

Also don't forget about DTD. Wolfgang Puck Cafe is delicious and Raglan Road was good, but since they're not at a park/resort, they have more availability. They're both on the DDP.

Probably still have a great time :) (just wouldn't know what you were missing ;)).

Our first trip to DW in Dec 2008 we didn't have a single reservation. Mainly because we didn't know any better. We didn't use this forum to help plan our trip. ;) But we didnt go hungry! :) There are a million places to eat. We had more counter service than table service, but we survived. You won't be able to eat everywhere you want, but you won't go hungry. Try going to eat at non meal times and you can get in some places with a short wait. You just might have to eat dinner at 3pm instead of 5pm.

Last trip we had all the reservations we wanted and that is definitely the way to go, but you won't starve and we still had a great time that first trip.

I have several dining res to cancel for that week.Is there a way to private message me your phone number or so that we could coordinate? As I cancel you could possibly pick them up. Does anyone know how fast the system updates?

These are the resv I have and they are for 8 people.

8/26 tonys town square 820pm
8/27 rainforest cafe 1230pm
8/28 crystal palace buffet mk 815am
8/28 Teppan Edo epcot 730pm
8/29 prime time cafe 735pm
Let me know I won't cancel anything till i hear from you.

I also am having difficulty making reservations! Do more come available closer to the date?
