Three boys and a mom: family trip leads to a couples only trip

The phone rings....oh no, Stitch has taken over the Magic Kingdom...get up Picards get up!!!

Rise and shine little ones, it is time to head out. the girls were not too thrilled with where they were, what they had to wear, and how early I was making them move..:rotfl:..I am so glad we have adopted boys!!

I call Kim to make certain that they are up and where we are going to meet. Today is Maxim's big day, so I need to stop at the ticket counter and pick up his $75 gift card. We agree to meet right inside the turnstiles. So, off we go onto the early bus and head to the Happiest Place on Earth. (you may have noticed that I keep saying that, there were som definitely unhappy moments this day)

Alex and Max

We get to the park, and I head over to the call desk while Dave takes the boys over to the Crystal Palace. It was good, I was the 3rd person in line. The first family at the window seemed to be having some early morning issues, and they opened another window. Now, I must state that at this point I am standing in the correct spot, where as the 2nd person in line was standing directly behing the 1st family at the window. When the 2nd window opens she calls for me to come over and the other woman pushes herself over with 2 girls in tow and states.."I was next!" very rudely. I begin my mantra..."happiest place on earth" so as to not explode at the very beginning of the day. Now, she has a real issue also...apparently has left the childrens' key to the world cards in the room, how is she to get them in the park :confused3

Finally it is my turn and I go up, meanwhile Kim and Doug have arrived and I send them to the CP with the rest of the family. I give the girl my info for Max's birthday and she tells me I need his pass. Well, I don't have it on me, my husband has it and he is at CP; she tells me not to worry, I can get it inside at Town Hall. OK, thanks.

Off to breakfast I go. I step through the tunnel, and there is my family...why are you not at CP checking in? Don't worry, it's all good!!! My Dave is very astute after 21 years of marriage to noticing when the sarcasm comes out there is a problem. I relay the rude lady issue and how I needed his ticket...don't worry, I will be fine. So I take this opportunity to take some pictures of the empty park.

We get to CP, check in, and we end up being the 1st table to the right as you enter....good and bad. It is the 1st stop of the characters, but it is also the path for people to walk by so it tends to be congested. Breakfast goes wonderfully, Alex does the Tigger Parade, and we eat lots of fattening and yummy food. The omlet chef made a Mickey pancake for Maxim's birthday, and we end the morning with another cupcake with a candle. :wizard: magic.

We have to head to Fantasyland so that Kim can ride Dumbo with Alex. They have been talking about this for months, so we are on a mission. We go through the castle, and we have 5 minutes left. We happen to be right at the ropes and we meet with the Fairy Godmother...
IMG_3703.jpg
and a very nice CM notices that it is Maxim's birthday, so he brings him over the rope and has everyone sing Happy Birthday.
IMG_3705.jpg

Now, in the recesses of my mind, I remember on the board someone stating that you could wake Tinkerbell if you were the first one's into Tink's treasures and you politely asked. So, I was thinking about it, but my sister really wanted to get on Dumbo so they could then leave Fantasyland for the "bigger" rides. I turn to the family next to me that have 2 little girls and tell them what you could do. The mom looks at me funny and says..."we're heading to Peter Pan." O.K., my mind is made up. Maxim helps to drop the rope, and we march over to Tink's treasures and Maxim gets to ring the bell that wakes her up....it really was quite cute and both boys got a kick out of it.
IMG_3708.jpg

So for the next 2.5 hours, we are in Fantasyland...Dumbo, Peter Pan, Pooh, Philharmonic, meet Ariel....

Our original plan was to head back to OKW for lunch, pool, and then go back in to the park after Alex woke from a nap. So we head down Main street to the city hall to get Maxim's $. Yeah....can't get it there, have to go to the will call on the outside. So, we head there, and yes, there is a long long line. Now I feel the tears behind my eyes...I take a deep breath...and head out. I wait in line for 20 minutes, get up to the counter, hand over the info and she says...where is your son? "excuse me?" I need to see your son. Now I ask you...why didn't the woman in the morning tell me that? :headache: Now I am getting mad...I explain in detail about this morning and that the cm said I needed his pass, and that my husband was inside the park with my sons. No deal...had to have him...so I tell her that I will go get him, but I refuse to wait in line for the 3rd time for this card....O.k., I go in the park, grab Max and head back out. Now she tells me that the copy of his passport isn't going to be enough, she needs the real thing...WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tears start to flow; I am tired, slightly hung over, hungry for lunch, ticked off at the wasted time...get the manager. They finally get it and low and behold 45 minutes is lost getting the gift card. Dave is ready to wrap it up, the boys don't want to leave, I am crying....."happiest place on earth" :scared:

Don't worry, it does get better.....

Great TR Cheryl! We're staying at OKW for the first time in June. I have to ask ya. Any trouble with the beds being uncomfortable? I've read quite a few posts about them being horrible. DH & I hope to buy into DVC in a few years(praying 2 years:cloud9:)and a OKW resale is a more affordable option for us. Can't wait to read more! TFS :goodvibes

Love, Love, Love the king bed....very comfortable with lots of room to roll around. We have even let Max sleep with us once 2 years ago and it was still heaven. Anyone we have taken with us has never complained about the other beds. The only thing is the pull out sofa bed, it is just a sofa bed after all. But the kids are fine on that. I can't say enough about OKW...we've owned since 1997 and are very happy!!

Thanks for reading my TR....I am going to try and post more tonight when I get home.

I love that first picture - the 2 of the boys in the car at 3AM - those smiles say it all! Loving the report!

Thanks...I love those smiles too. I am just thinking about the guilt I am going to feel when we go back in a few weeks without them for our little adult only escape weekend. Well, maybe not too much guilt. ;)

So when we left this family of four the mom (me) was crying, the father (Dave) was irritated, son 1 (Max) was nervous, and son 2 (Alex) started to cry because Mom was crying....yeah, good times!!

Anyway, we ask Max what he wants to do, since it is his birthday, and he says he wants to stay in the park. He wants to get his hair done. We head to the barber, but the line was soooooo long. I talk him into going to Tomorrowland to ride Buzz. We get there and the wait is 60 minutes, so we get some fastpasses and go to lunch. We went to the place inbetween TL and FL and I have to say I was shocked at the number of people there...it was packed. Magic Kingdom just didn't seem that busy to me, and I had to wonder was every person in the park, in that counter service? We eat quick, hit the wedway, carosell of progress, meet buzz lightyear, and then back to Buzz. We head over to the speedway (20 minute wait) and get in line. About 15 people in front of us are our nieces, and as I am waving at them my sister calls to say that they are on the Wedway and want to head back to relax for a bit....meet us after the speedway is over.

We all meet up and convince the boys the best thing to do would be to head back, jump in the pool and then come back for the fireworks later. With everyone in agreement, we head out, hop the monorail back to the parking lot (Kim and Doug had their car) and head back to OKW.

This was Alex's first time, and he was enjoying himself.

After getting a quick serve at OKW, cooling off at the pool, we head back in. The first thing I tell Max is that we are going to use that money of his, so we won't be doing it at the end of the night. We go into the stores to the left, and I ask the CM where the sale racks were....:lmao: I need to give you some background on my child. He is an observer and because of me, has a keen sense of money and how to get the most bang for his buck. $75 doesn't get you too far in the stores at MK, but he ended up with a real "adult" watch, a sweatshirt, and a t-shirt. He was very proud of himself, and I was relieved that we were out of the store in 35 minutes!! WE head over to Adventureland to do the "scary" but fun rides. We hopped on Aladin's carpets, Jungle cruise and Pirates. We talk the boys into seeing the parade before the fireworks, and they were glad. They had a "surprise" showing of the electric light parade, and kept the park open an extra hour..:woohoo:

The castle with Alex's "must have" $10 balloon. Although, I must say that the balloon stayed afloat for 2 weeks, so it really wasn't a complete waste.

The parade and the fireworks did not disappoint, and although we didn't get to do everything, we left the park feeling better than when the day began.

We take the bus back to OKW, while Kim and the family find a photographer to take a picture of them...she had a free 5 x 7 coming to her.

When we got back I started to pack us and poured myself a glass of wine. I was quite sad to realize the trip was all over. :sad2:

Next up....things learned and thoughts for future trips

Well, I'm glad to see that the day that begun with tears ended with lots of smiles!

Yes, a better ending than the beginning. Upon reflection, I think I was just tired, and knowing that we were leaving soon, and a few other Disney things just brought the tears out on my part....I am an emotional girl.

Well, I drank my wine, finished packing as the boys slept peacefully. Dave and I loaded the car, putting everything back in like a wooden puzzle and then called to have one last wake up call....for 3:00 am....:scared1: there must be a better way.

Anyway, we go to bed.

Wake with a start to the phone, yes Stitch, we are up, and finish the last of the loading with the cooler and food. I call my sister and get them up. We load the boys, all of us whining that we don't want to leave yet, and off we go to pick up Kim at All Star.

We really made good time, and arrived in Washington DC by 5:00 pm. Max was so excited to see the monuments that he had been reading about in school. We get to the Marriott, and low and behold, they can't fit my sister's car with the luggage rack. :headache: Now, I had called the hotel the week before to check and see if it was going to fit and I had been told yes, so needless to say, I wasn't happy. doug and Kim said they were just going to drive home, so I ran in, canceled all our reservations, and decided we were all going home.

...I can't find my pictures of the Capital....I will be back.

Cheryl,

I've been so 'not' on the board lately, I completely missed your trip! I am sorry it was a bit stressful at times, but sounds like all in all, you had a great time and Alex & Max will have memories forever of this trip. :goodvibes

Thank you...now that I re-read it, it probably sounds a bit more stressed than it was. the boys were awesome for the long drive both down and back, the food was good, we had great weather, and it has lead us to go back with just the 2 of us. We leave for that in one week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess, when I return I will have to continue this trip report for just the 2 of us.
