Does anyone know how hard it is to snag one of these? And is it possible to get as a rental? Many thanks!

It’s going to tough to rent points for one. Unless you can find someone renting depending on how many nights your staying and the time of year 600 to over 1,200 points for 6 nights. Cash through Disney, I’m not sure these ever make it to their inventory. If you are lucky to find someone with points at those resorts it’s going to cost a lot. Probably $18 per point. For 600 points that’s about $11,000, 1,200 points $22,000. If your looking for a day or two and are flexible, you probably can find someone at 7 months to use non primary resort points for $15 or 16 a point. Now Bungalows at Poly are almost always available to rent from Disney for cash. If your looking at renting points for these you’ll need to find even more than needed at VGF 3 bedroom. But they are very available at 7 months so any points can rent them. Good luck.

As a renter, you have a few obstacles to overcome.

The first will be finding an owner with ample points to book either a BLT or VGF GV. The time of year and length of stay that you want to book will determine how many points are needed. For instance, I own at VGF and a weeklong stay in September (the cheapest time to stay with regard to points) would take 819 points. Move that reservation to Christmas week and it would cost me 1,431 points. That’s more than I have at VGF even if I bank and borrow points. With the current restrictions on borrowing points, you would be hard pressed to find an owner with enough points they’re willing to rent in order to book that. But if you’re only looking for a couple of nights there are plenty of owners who could probably “snag” it for you.

Your second obstacle will be availability. Some resorts have very few GVs. VGF has 6. BLT has a total of 14: 8 theme park view and 6 lake view. At certain times of the year, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, those GVs get booked up quickly right at 8 AM on the 11-month date or shortly afterwards. New Year’s Eve gets “walked” by determined members. Some owners are willing to walk a reservation for a renter if a premium price is paid for the points. Otherwise, they will just rent their points to make a reservation that requires much less work. At other times of the year, you can find entire weeks available at 7 months. That’s when any owner can book at any resort and home resort doesn’t matter.

The stars could align and it could work out for you. I wish you luck.

Hi. I am in search too for a 3 bedroom Villa at GF first pick then maybe BLT for Feb 27, 2022 - March 5, 2022. Any advise? TY

Yes look at the DVC point charts for your dates for both resorts and total the amount you need to reserve the room. Then go to the rental section of the board to see if any dis members have enough points for the resort you want and negotiate the rental with them.

They are easy to snag if

1. You can find someone with lots of BLT or VGF points to rent
2. You book at 11 months before checkin

Otherwise, call Disney direct and ask for cash rates (I assume over $2,000 per night)

Thank you. I just feel defeated on getting this room type that seems perfect for our crew. This will only be our 2nd time so we are such Rookies. Thank you for your comment and help!

I think VGF has only 6 Grand Villas and BLT as only 14 Grand Villas and many of those get taken by DVC members at the 7-11 month booking window.

You will have better luck at Bay Lake Tower

I would start by editing your previous post to remove the dates. And be aware that scammers may try to contact you via PM now that you've put it out there that you are looking for a large point rental. Don't respond to them!

You can start checking the Rent/Trade board now (you must be signed in to your disboards account to view it). You're going to need almost 1,000 points for that week at VGF and around 750-900 for BLT. Booking for home resorts begins 11 months before the check in date, so if your heart is set on those two resorts, you will need to seek out someone will a boatload of points at your preferred resort close to the 11-month date. I recommend looking at that board now to get a feel for how it works.

As @DVC Doctor mentioned, BLT has more GVs and also has more members. You have a better chance at BLT than at VGF. But all it takes is one owner with enough points at 11 months to secure your reservation.

Good luck.

Thanks so much. I appreciate your help. It would be like winning the lottery I am afraid I haven’t seen any listings with that many points. Much appreciation!

I think your odds are MUCH better than winning the lottery, especially if you are flexible on the dates, or number of nights you want to book as you may get close to what you want, but not 100% exact match.

The odds of winning the Powerball is roughly 1 in 292 million
The odds of winning the Mega Millions is roughly 1 in 302 million

Here are some more odds, that should make you feel batter:
Plane crash - 11 million to one
Snakebite - 50 million to one
Shark attack -3.75 million to one
Falling out of bed - 2 million to one
Lightning strike - 1.2 million to one
Flesh-eating bacteria - 1 million to one
Dog mauling - 118,776 to one
Car accident -106 to one

The key issue you will have is finding someone with enough points to provide the reservation. You should note that for the time period you are seeking, Feb 27 - March 5, that Feb 28-March 5 will be a low DVC demand time and a GV at VGF or BLT, or both, has a decent chance of being available even at 7-months out when members of other resorts can reserve them. Sunday, February 27, however, could be a real issue unless you reserve with the 11-month window. Assuming the Princess half-marathon weekend starts to happen again next year (currently gone due to covid), Feb 27 will be the end of that weekend (it is always the weekend right after Presidents' Day). The Princess half-marathon weekend is traditionally the highest demand time for WDW DVC Resorts that exists between mid-Jan and late-Sep.

You may need to edit out the dates on your post so scammers don't try to offer you points via private message. If you get any private messages offering a reservation or points, notify the Webmaster or Moderator.

It could work for you if you use one of the rental agencies. They could work it where one owner provides a few days and another owner provides the rest, and then tie the reservations together.

I don't think rental agencies have the ability to link, merge or tie reservations together. Both owners would need to contact Member Services to make it happen and I don't know that the brokets are willing to go that route when they can rent those points out for the same price for 2 or more smaller reservations.

However, I recently read a post from one owner who frequently does private rentals. That owner was contacted by a previous renter who wanted a large point rental. The owner didn't have the number of points needed but they contacted another DVC owner and between the two of them they were able to book all of the nights the renter wanted and then they both contacted Member Services to link the reservations.

Thanks. So how would a newbie go about seeking this out? What you speak of? Thanks!!
