Three adults and child in verandah room for TA

My twelve year old and I have booked the Western TA for Sept. 2017. I have done the 15 day TA with an adult daughter and another younger daughter who are not coming this time, and because of the extra space on the verandah, it worked well. My oldest daughter and her husband are considering joining us and are willing to sleep on the bunk beds. I would share the queen bed with my youngest. Am I delusional to think this might work? I could book the inside room across from us but the cost difference is nearly 100% more and we are paying in CAD. I would be paying half of their trip so money is a big factor. They are relatively young and my Son-inLaw is pretty easy going. He and my daughter share their apartment with another adult so are used to not having their own space but of course, do have their own bedroom. The cabins only have the curtain. Most likely they would only be in the room to sleep. My 12 year old plans to be in the kid's club at least some of the time. I have never stayed in a cabin with anyone except my daughters so not sure if this would be awkward. I don't think so but.....

I can offer the technicals: there is a single shower and the upper berth has a weight limit of 220 lbs. If neither of those are a problem then it is going to be 100% on whether you are up to sharing a room for two weeks with them. I personally would not choose to spend two weeks in a single room with either of my parents, but that is all my opinion. They also say they are fine with the bunk beds but they are making the decision to sleep in them for two weeks without having ever done so. Not exactly something I would be deciding and paying thousands of dollars on without trying them first.

So yeah, it could totally work. But it could also very much not work. If it were a 3-4 night cruise I would no doubt say give it a shot. TA is considerably more of a gamble.

This is just my opinion.... if it was your son and DIL, you wouldn't mind his male presence in an otherwise all female environment. Changing might be uncomfortable for you all or for him, however, as he is not the child you brought into this world and raised. He is a person you met as an adult. So unless you have had him share your home with you before, even overnight, the privacy thing could get old really quickly.

I think it really depends on how well you get along with your daughter and her husband and if your expectations for the trip are the same as theirs. My husband and I went on a two week vacation with his mother and our daughter who was two at the time. It was a week at the parks then a 4 day cruise and she paid for most of it and she spent the whole two weeks reminding us of that fact. Any time we wanted to do something different than her, she reminded us about it. She can't go to sleep without the TV on, but our two year old wouldn't sleep with it on so by the third or fourth night we asked her to turn the TV off so DD would fall asleep and all hell broke loose. Long story short, two weeks in a confined space with someone you're not used to living with can be stressful and sometimes it's the little differences that are the most annoying. As far as space goes, you won't be spending a ton of time in the room and anyone can use the showers in the spa for free (so I've read but haven't tried yet) so I don't think that will be the main concern.

Its the getting changed issues that could come up. You might want to consider upgrading to a Cat 10 as I think these have split bathrooms which will allow for people to get changed in easier. Might not be that much more and would allow you a bit more space.

Well, I manage to book the inside cabin directly across from us and although the cost in CAD is about $1100.00 more than sharing a single cabin, an eleven day cruise is long as everyone pointed out - and my youngest likes the top bunk while I like the big comfy bed. Hopefully I can rebook them on board in Nov. on our 4 day. The savings would more than pay for
the difference. Fingers crossed prices don't go up and there are rooms in my category left.

Did you book your room as a single? If so, the group could save a little money by booking that 3rd person (in the other room) into yours. Yes, that 3rd person would then pay the adult price in your room, but you're paying it anyway. It would take away the 3rd person's cost in the other room. But, you all can sleep in whichever room you'd like.

No. I booked the room with my twelve year old. She has to pay the adult price. The second room was booked for my now adult daughter and her husband. We were debating whether or not to share my verandah room. Given it is not a trip I will be able to do for a while again, we have opted to book the second room and I will swallow the extra cost and hoping both can be rebooked for the discounts when I take a four day cruise in the fall.

For what it's worth, I think you made the best choice. Spending an extra $1100 stinks but I think it would be worse to spend your entire vacation frustrated or angry. I hope you have a wonderful time and are able to make up some of the costs elsewhere.
