I had read posts earlier about bed bugs in hotels... mostly all stars

I've been to all-stars music, and in may and december to POR. No bed bugs to my knowledge.

Any recent alerts?

Bed bugs can appear at ANY hotel anywhere. Disney is no different than anywhere else. If someone brings them in, how is Disney to know unless the person who sees them TELLS them about the problem.

My amazement on thsse boards is not that they have appeared here or there, but that people wait until they come home to complain about them. Believe me - if I saw ANY sign of bedbugs, I wouldn't test the room out for the night to see if they're really there. I would be OUT OF THERE and to management immediately.

So - my question is this - Do we really believe all of those posts about bedbugs, or are they just spouting at the mouth about something that never happened? :confused3

The odd diser has had it happen to them, but 4/5 posts are a friend of mine etc etc etc. and the pp is right, it seems they never complained to disney about it. I think people see a bite and freak out. Just check your mattress when you check in, no big deal. Because you got bit while sleeping or noticed it when waking up, doesnt mean its bed bugs. Spiders frequently bite people in their sleep and it could be you were bit and didnt notice it. Im sure some bed bugs happen, but it can anywhere.

OK. Of all the people who have stayed at all the Disney resorts in all the years that each one has been open, how many INDIVIDUAL and FIRST HAND reports have you seen? Not the person who said "I heard that in one Orlando hotel someone said they might have been bitten by a bed bug". And not the person who came back and said "Yeah, I heard that too, here's a link to the Orlando Sentinal report" (which doesn't mention any report at a Disney resort).

It's kind of like someone reporting that there was a big fire in their hometown theatre and it was bad - everyone had to be evacuated. And the true story is that someone lit up a lighter, someone else saw it and yelled fire and everyone stampeded out the doors.

My experience in the service industry has shown me three types of unhappy people.
1. The person who is the loud complainer, the scene-maker: This is usually over something really minor, like being made to wait to long. Sometimes, this guy is out for something from the get-go, and is well-versed in the complaint department.
2. The person who says nothing. Orders a tea, but gets iced tea, and drinks it, never really feeling offended enough to stop the server(or whatever) to make them make the change.
3. The "waiter." The person who never makes a peep of any displeasure, until they get home and get on the 800 number to tell of the horrid experience they had, and how they will "never be back.." Until the coupons arrive in the mail.
Do bed bugs live in beds..yes. Are there LOTS of beds at disney. Yes.

Take that and run.
Im sure disney has both bed WITH bugs, and beds WITHOUT. Sometimes, you may have to ask. PLEASE DONT WAIT TO COMPLAIN. IM SURE THEY CAN ACCOMIDATE!!:rolleyes1

I have wondered if some of these Disney "bedbug" posts are actually started by other resorts in the Orlando area! They happen every 2-3 weeks and are almost always concerning someone's friend or relative, nothing first hand. That way no one could ever be held liable for libel/slander(?) because they are only reporting what they heard, not claiming it happened to them directly. It's just very curious and I am surprised that Disney hasn't jumped in on this yet. Yes, anyplace can have these critters but the constant talk about them on this site is weird.:confused3

My personal experience...I have stayed many times at ASMo and POP and I've never seen a bedbug.

Bed bugs, sorry to say, are part of any hotel at some point. You just can't keep them out forever.

That said, no Disney resort, is more likely to have them, than any other one. And the cleanest one, least likely to have them, is the one that had them reported recently.

That way they know they were there and it has been taken care of.

Enjoy your trip. :thumbsup2

You know that can happen. I do know that there were a bunch of threads on tripadvisor a few years ago regarding the Disneyland Hotel. Turned out to be postings from one of the owners/managers of one of the smaller motels on Harbor near Disneyland. I remember reading some of those and thinking that it was amazing how this was happening so often at the same hotel. Some of the posts were so over the top you had to laugh. I can't remember how I heard it was supposedly a motel owner but right after that Tripadvisor did tighten up guidlines and those types of posts seemed to stop regarding the DLH. I also agree that often these bedbug posts seem to be in the third person, "my neighbor, sister, coworker, minister, brother," had this happen.

Have stayed at the All Stars, all of them on four separate occasions. No bedbugs yet. There are ways to check the room/mattress for bedbugs. Google bedbugs (prepare to be grossed out) and you will see what to look for.

And for goodness sake, definitely report the problem to management immediately.

bedbugs are common across the world in hotels, it is not a unique problem by any means. I have always made it habit to check the mattress before I do anything else in the room. If you see any signs of them being present, just call for a new room.

no Disney resort, is more likely to have them, than any other one.

I dunno. If I were a bedbug, and could stay at a Disney resort free of charge, I'd probably pick one of the deluxe resorts. Royal Palm Club at the Grand, maybe? ;)

Do they fall under "requests", or can I book them through my TA?:rotfl2:
Sorry, I couldn't resist, but you're right, I've worked in numerous resort hotels and it's a very diverse group.

Thanks. I'm relieved.

Like I said (and as you can see in my signature) I've stayed at Disney hotels many times and haven't seen a thing. I'm mostly scared of spiders, so I always check under the covers before going to bed, and haven't seen a thing.

But recently, these posts seems to be everywhere ;)

Thanks everyone!

DH and I go to DIS alot, about 4-6 times a year and have stayed in almost every resort (4 more to go) and have never encountered any bed bugs or any bugs at all in the room

Bed bugs can appear at any hotel or resort, my husband and I stay at a lot of hotels we have never encountered any bed bugs at any hotel we have stayed at. I think the best you can do is just look for them in your room, behind the bed post. I heard that at Disney they are using the dogs to check the room; I read it in one of the news papers. As far as them being in all star resort, I have stayed at all star most of the time, and like I said I have never seen a bed bug.

My sister is a propety manager at Harvard University, and a few years back all the dorms were infested with bed bugs. Some of the parents were shocked that bed bugs would be at "Haa-vad".

I guess they should have gone to a state school. :)
