DH is bugging me about what I want for Christmas. I want a million things that cost too much, but then I thought about the George Forman. We had one years ago when they first came out and DH broke it...we never replaced it. I barely remember having it. My question is: Is it worth it? What do you think of yours? What do you make on yours?

Any help would be very appreciated...THANKS!

We've had several and love them! We finally graduated up to the size that stands out on a deck. We grill chicken breasts and pork chops using Zesty Italian dressing as a marinade. Delish! We also grill burgers but often throw on some onions along with green and red bell peppers sliced up...sometimes mushrooms too. Healthier way of eating. ;)

One thing from using this grill sooo much...if used inside (most are) you will begin to see grease on things and more cleaning will be necessary. That's one reason we enjoy using ours outside on the terrace. :thumbsup2

I love the one I got. It has half grill and hlf griddle. I got it at Costco. We made Turkey burgers on it last eve. I use it for panini, steak, pork, chicken, burgers, pancakes, eggs, keilbasi, hot dogs, tofu, veggie burgers, grilled veggies, bananas, pineapple and ham,etc

I love the one I have. Hamburgers in 3mins...yum. I also have done salmon in it, again very delicious. I really use most for the burgers though. Being a single woman, just very convenient and quick.

Oh and I have had mine for about 3 or 4 yrs now.

We love ours. The heating areas are removable and dishwasher safe.
You sold me with your comment right here! How did you know I hate doing dishes?!?

Thanks for all your replies. I will definitely give DH the :thumbsup2 to buy me one. My DH currently works 3 jobs so I can stay at home more and most of the time he is gone at night. I really want to cook healthy, yummy meals for the kids and I but I don't like all the fuss. This might be the ticket for us!

Thanks for all the input and suggestions!

Hmm...can I pay extra and get you to come with the George Forman? :teeth: Everything you listed sounds yummy!

I had one and it broke.. I definitely want another one.. I cooked everything on that sucker.. Chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, vegetables.. you name it, I cooked it and it tasted so good... :goodvibes

We have the Champ one, which might be too small for you, depending on your family. We also have the special sponges for it, which is a huge plus.

We have the Cuisinart Griddler and I really love it. Look into that as well.

One other thing I enjoy cooking on it that was not mentioned is grilled cheese sandwiches (they come out perfect!) and quesadillas. I put cheese, cooked chicken, onions, etc. on them, yet again perfect!

I just bought the G 5 at WAL-Mart. It's great. My DD loves waffles in the morning. The removable elements feature is wonderful for making waffles. In the past few years,I've thrown several wafflemakers in the garbage can because they were too darn hard to clean.

I too will give a thumbs up to the Cuisinart Griddler. (Though a side note - I've never used a George Foreman to compare.) I've had it for quite awhile and it works great.

I like that it comes with both the regular rippled plates (for grilling burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches/reubens, chicken, steak etc) and with flat plates that you can open it up and use both sides to cook pancakes etc. You can use the rippled plates open flat as well in case you need more surface area to cook on (you just loose the time-saver of having a lid over top then for quicker cooking).

The grill plates come off and can pop in the dishwasher, and the top lid hinges and rotates (I'm not sure if Foreman's do or not) so that it lays flat above the top surface of the food for most contact.

Here's the reviews at Amazon and Epinions - didn't read much, but an average 4.5/5 on both sites sounds pretty good.

:wave2: Hi Lynne! I was just talking about you on another thread the other day!!! So wonderful to see you here!!!

I give a big :thumbsup2 to the george foreman grill! When I first started seeing ads for it , I thought it was like all those other silly products they sell on infomercials. But a couple of years ago I bought one for my elderly grandfather (he just turned 91!!!) b/c he's really into eating giant slabs of meat (and not much else! don't ask how he's lived so long) but it is hard for him to get out a frying pan and do all the clean up.

He loved his foreman grill, so the next year, I bought one for myself. I love it! You can really cook ANYTHING on it, and its so easy to use. Much easier to clean up than cooking in any other pots/pans. And quick! It takes about 4-8 minutes to cook chicken, steak, fish, etc (depending on how thick it is). I also like to cook veggies, sandwiches (grilled cheese, etc.) and french toast on it. Basically anything that can be cooked in a pan can be made on the foreman grill.

About the price -- my income is limited like yours. But look around -- I've seen foreman grills at Big Lots and other discount stores for CHEAP. They also go on sale at walmart, kmart, etc. fairly frequently. I think they might be something like 20 bucks, very affordable. If it is just you and your husband (I think you mentioned a husband?), get the small grill. There are some huge ones out there now, but the smallest one is fine for two people.

Thanks...I really appreciate everyone's help. I'm definitely going to look into both the Foreman and the Cuisinart. The grill is mostly for me to make meals for my kids and I. When DH is off work I would probably make a meal. I'm just sick to death of unhealthy, salty hamburger helper and fried burgers or whatnot. I want to start getting the kiddos in healthy eating habits and I think Foreman (or any indoor grill) is the way to go.

Thanks..you all sealed the deal for me. Now I can't wait to open my new indoor grill for Christmas! I'm off to tell DH my decision!

I guess I am the lone dissenter for the Foreman grill. I did not like mine at all. It seemed to me that the outside of my meat would get burned, while the inside was raw. I would get headaches from eating anything I cooked in the grill. I had to result to making "super thin" burgers on the grill, but then they would cook so fast, they would still burn. I think it was because there was no temperature control on my grill....it was just the little "plug-in" kind. I sold it at my garage sale for $5.

Then, I went and bought the Cuisinart Griddler....I LOVE it!!! I saw a world of difference between the two products.
