On a short trip to visit the Mouse, we were lucky enough to be first in line one day for Skipper's Canteen. The menu is much different that the Mouse's normal fare...and a welcome surprise! We were seated at what others gushed was the best table in the house...surrounded by mounted butterflies that our guide assured us she'd personally caught just last week. The jokes were typical Jungle Cruise fare...but the food was scrumptious!
We started with a bread service that was quite flavorful a coriander bread with a honey and fenugreek dip. Very good! We followed with the Arepas (ok, not sure of the spelling), as our appetizer and it was a delight of flavors (seasoned beef, black beans, plantains, corn pancakes). I had a rice noodle bowl with chicken and enjoyed it very much. My husband had the BBQ pork and also enjoyed it. The highlight of the meal was the kongaloosh (a chocolate lava type of cake, with an ice cream, frozen banana, chocolate crust, and coffee dust). It was the best dessert I've ever had on Disney property. My husband and I would go back for the dessert alone...but we'd go back for dinner too.
All in all, a fabulous experience.
